I'm not sure if this should be filled under whine or rant - but what gives with the worlds most un-comfortable thumbstud? I'll concede that the design is very positive in terms of grabbing your thumb - but damm - this thing hurts! Given the truly elegant and functional design of the rest of this tool - the thumbstud is just plain weird. My theory is that Mr. Reeve's day job is as the knife meister - but he actaually lives to play bass guitar in some sort of band.( anybody know what his taste in music runs to?) -as a result he has developed a tremendious callis on the outside of his right thumb ( this assumes he plays left handed and frets with his right hand) - therfore he has inocently come up with this very painful design feature?

yer doin it wrong!

Nobody has more tender thumbs the me and I don't have a problem.

You know, with all the things I like about the Sebenza, I'll put up with a thumb stud designed to not catch or wear on your pocket. It's not my favorite but it works just fine.

Put your thumb behind the stud and push forward toward the front of the handle. This should pop the blade into place relatively painlessly. Another thing I do with sharp edges is to buff them lightly with a ceramic rod.

You must be pushing down instead of out. I open mine many times during the day w/o any problem.

For me its better than other studs I have used. Just push up and it opens right up in one easy low travel motion. Atleast for me.

Hope it works out for you:)

Yeah it took me a while to get the "press out and not down" bit but once I did it has been fine. I do still prefer the hole on my spydies or the disk on my old BM Stryker.

I agree. It hurt my thumb when I got it, but I looked on here and found a couple of tips... ...it now opens better than any knife I've had.

1. Hold the knife up close to the top
2. Push out on the angled side of the stud. Not down on the point. By having your hand closer to the top of the handle, your thumb travels our perpendicular to the handle
3. Be careful you don't put undue force on the lockbar with your fingers on the backside.

Follow that and I think you'll find it works just fine.
