Does Duracoat work for knives?

I've acquired a Scrapyard knife that was stripped by it's previous owner. I've got some matte black Duracoat left over from a pistol I revamped recently, and the obvious question bubbled up in my brain; "I wonder if I could recoat it with this stuff"? I know it'll stick to it; I'm wondering if anyone's done it and can testify to how it held up in use. If it's just going to look crappy after one camping trip I might just leave it alone, ya know?

duracoat is good stuff. go ahead and coat it, and when it gets scuffed, recoat it. just make sure you prep the surface well enough.

I have wondered the same thing myself......Do it man! Post pics. I know there is a forum member who does Duracoat pimp paint jobs but I have never seen how they look or hold up after beat on.

I have been told that there is a duracoated gun in this pic, but I still can't find it

I wonder if it would stick to the Res-c handles? Would that somehow mess them up?

If the owner has done a good "Satin Job" on the knife...and it was to be used for food prep as part of it's camp knife chores...I would leave it as is....if it's just chopping wood...it does'nt matter....try the coating out...

I did some checking on the coatings on my knives once they were roughed up...and deposits came off when slicing blocks of white cheese...which I used so I could tell if this was happening...YMMV...but for food prep I like a Satin or Double Cut finish....

So Cobalt did you put on your blind fold and field strip her??....Sometimes it's better to go by "feel" when you can't see too well....:D:D:D

Well if her hand cannon dont keep the guys away I'm sure her wedding ring does... :D

On duracoat - there are some great vids of the process on youtube. Nutnfancy has a good one - long as hell, but good.

It would work well, surface preparation is important though. I wouldn't even duracoat the handles though, just tape it off. Another thing, when it starts to wear, you're not going to be able to just dip it in solvent to get the duracoat off/back to satin. The stuff is quite rugged, I've done an AR-15 before in FDE and it held up quite well. I don't know how well it'll hold up to batoning etc though.
