Does elections mean a delay in the Cobalt Special?

Bill,

I was just wondering if the arrival of the Cobalt Special is going to be possibly delayed because of the elections in Nepal. I'm quivering with anticipation in getting my hands wrapped around one! No wait, I'm quivering because of too much coffee...my mistake:-) Just update us on the project.

Take care,

We are getting so far behind that the Cobalt special is still a fair piece down the road. Elections will have no effect on this model but our back orders will. I think it may be three or four months before we see that knife and the full order may not be sent all at once. We will probably get a partial half order to be followed later with the remainder.

It is as the kamis tell me when I send word to them that we are behind on our orders: "You can only pound steel so fast."

Bill,

I completely understand! An arm can only swing so fast! And if I lived where they did, eyes can only take in the beauty of the surroundings so fast:-)

Take care,
John

Bill, I know i'm supposed to get numbers 1 and 2 from the first batch. However, if not enough make it for the initial run I'll sacrifice number 2 and get one from the second batch so that more can get them off the first run. If you get enough on the first run, then I'll keep number 2.

You are a good guy, Cobalt. I got the screws, by the way, and I agree that the heads may be a bit too small. We will probably have to use washers to get the grip that we want. I'll be shipping them over to the shop today or tomorrow.

Uncle Bill

Essentially it is a half inch thick, 15 inch Bowie. You can see a sketch in an old thread by the name, I think, of Cobalt Special. Cobalt designed the knife and we are getting ten made -- sometime.

Bill, those were the best I could find. I even called the company supplying the Buck screws for the intrepid. The problem with those is that they use a nonstandard thread pattern and are to small in the width department. I got another batch before this last one that was not even close to what I wanted. They werebasically bolts with open female ends, looked screwy(no pun intended).

Cobalt, they will work fine with the addition of a washer. What is the technical name for that screw combo?

I would not be surprised if the kamis don't make their own washers -- probably brass or copper. That will make an interesting handle -- handmade washers and a high tech screw assembly.

Uncle Bill

thanks guys. The knife looks great Cobalt. Its an excellent idea--or really I guess design now.

thanks and take care

This knife has a double name -- the Cobalt Special and/or the Ang Khola Bowie. What a combination!

Uncle Bill

Should be very nice, Rudy. And you can always use it as a hammer, chisel, shovel, or whatever else you wish to do with it. You can use it as a stepping stool by wedging it into wood or other things.

Oh, and what about a boat anchor?

My guess is this knife is going to weigh a bit more than 1.5 pounds. Anybody else want to guess?

Uncle Bill

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it come with it's own Sherpa for carrying it around???:-)

Take care,
John Johnson

I would say about as much as the 15 inch Ang khola. There is more metal in the tang but the blade actually has less since there is more blade in the curved khukuri than the straight knife. But who really knows. It will feel lighter though due to the balance point being closer to the handle.

You are right about the cg, Cobalt, and because of this it won't chop like the 15 inch AK but it should be just as tough or maybe even tougher due to the straight blade.

I keep wondering just what the kamis will do with this. It will be a surprise no matter what.

Uncle Bill

I would like to see some pictures of the Cobalt Special when they come in. Bill, do you think you could post some? Of course, after the knives have made their way through the mail to their new owners. It would be a shame to spoil the moment when the owners unwrap their packages.

Howard, I'm sure we will have more pix of the Cobalt Special than we will want.

Cliff has one on order and I'm sure he will be testing it in his usual rigorous and thorough manner -- with pix!
