Does everyone hate CS rubber handles?

Is there anyone who actually likes the Cold Steel rubber handles? I have a Trailmaster and I actually like the grip. Is there something wrong with me?

It's a matter of preference and intended use. I used a trailmaster at a camping trip once and it bit the hell out of my hand, blisters formed and callouses stayed, I sold it but ended up regretting selling it because it's just a big knife. If you don't really use it hard, it's a good big one. And no there's nothing wrong with you, you're just unique.:p Seriously though, I just prefer other materials to Kraton, that's all.

I have two cold steel fixed blades with kraton handles. and I think they are very comfortable. They are ugly, and apparently they can tear apart, but I have always liked the feel of Kraton in my hand. I have never gotten a blister from the handles, but my hands are very calloused. I also rarely use a knife for hours at a time. IF I am cutting something with I am ususally done in under 5 minutes, or I pull out an ax or a saw.

Ive used thr recon scout alot and I think the handles are comfortable.
Ive really beat the hell out of the recon scout and my handle has held up great. But I do think the handle on Newt Livesays Air Assault is the best.

I've got a recon tanto and I really like the handle. Of course I have not used it hard either.

I like kraton

I can do twirls with my master hunter it just sticks to my hand in a good way.

I've got a recon tanto and a mini khukuri and I love the kraton handles. They've survived a lot of field use as well as my cats and my teething son chewing on them.....

Sorry, I don't like them much. They always seem to feel sticky or icky or something. I like the grip though.

I don't. I think that they add alot to the utilitarian (working) nature of Cold Steel knives.:).

I have had a trailmaster and SRK for years. I have to agree about the blisters if you use it hard for long periods of time, Like chopping brush and wood. I finally put some red micarta on the Trailmaster with some finger grooves. It was such an improvement that I changed out the SRK to some Black Walnut Burl and added a brass pomel and guard as well. I had to tig weld a 1/4" bolt shaft to the tang of the SRK to be able to mount the pomel.I have a Master Tanto that is one of the early ones I bought back in the 80's that I was thinking of changing the handle on as well, But I keep leaning towards leaving it original. I will post some pics of them . http://home.bellsouth.net/personalp...w=2U24&uh=18054702,2,chris&uzip=29657&ver=3.0

Ya know Chrisaloia, change a couple of words and what you said just paints all the wrong images. :D

I can`t do twirls with my Master Hunter...yet...but when your hands are covered with deer innards the kraton handle really comes into it`s own.

it works.

and if you hqve to use it long enough to get blisters, use gloves like me.

no I don't have pussy hands. My manicurist thinks they're quite lovely!:p

I have a Trailmaster. I have no problem with the kraton handles, but I do not like the shape of the handle... it needs a palm swell to fit the hand better. I think I may have to look into getting it re-handled too. Does anybody have any recc's for doing this?
Thankyouverymuch, Mongo

Well I've heard of complaints concerning rubber grips on guns (ie the newer Colt Gov. Models) because they affect concealability. But the author of the article found the rubber grip quite fit the hand, but same complaint... can't use it too long.
So I guess if you're going to wield that knife for a long time, you might want to consider a different handle material.
I personally haven't come across knives with rubber handles. For my uses, I don't think I have a need for that.

I think they are functional, especially on the Master Hunter where deer guts and blood challenge a good grip with many handle materials.

Everything is a compromise, however, and I do feel as though there are better lookig, more comfortable and more durable handles, but Kraton serves it's purpose for many field applications. In a rubber-like material, I prefer the Busse Basic's Resciprene-C but do not see it on any other manufacturer's knives.

I really wish people would stop using thread titles like this one. They attract flames. This thread could just as easily been titled "Opinions on Cold Steel Rubber Handles" and been just as effective. Fortunately in this case, the flame bait was not taken. As a rule of thumb, and thread that starts out with words like Hate in the title are much more likely to get closed.
