I know it voids the CRK warranty but does it damage or weaken the knife in any way?

Experiences?

TIA

Brad

It wouldnt necessarily damage the knife but it would void the warranty. Your choice in the end.

No it will not damage the knife in any way or weaken it. There are a lot of companies and custom makers (Strider for example) who offer heat colored titanium knives. You don't really have to hold the flame on it that long to change the color. I've got a few different Ti objects I've colored with heat. Most recently the clasp on my all Ti watch I colored blue, pretty easy with a butane or propane torch.

It won't do anything to the Ti but you may have issues with the detent and lock face if you start heating things up. I know CRK use a ceramic detent but you may still cause problems if you get the Ti too hot, the lock face is already "heat treated" so IMO it's best not to start playing about with it.

It's just the surface of the Ti, but like everyone else said, it voids the warranty. But it's your knife...

It can be done with electric current as well. Does not harm the Ti as it has very high temperature points.
