Does G-10 provide a handle with better “grip or stick” than micarta?

I have a G10 Spyderco Dodo and it is grippy as all heck. I also have a Calypso Jr. w/ micarta but it's polished so I'm not sure if it makes a fair comparison.

I will say that the Dodo is the grippiest knife that I've ever owned or touched personally.

i personally haven't used anything grippier than finely "knurled" (is it still knurling when it's not on metal?) G-10 on my Spyderco Dodo and my Camillus Cuda Jr... it's extremely grippy when being used, but otherwise feels soft to a light touch... i imagine other materials (not counting rubbery type of things) can match the grip tho..

If by "Camillus Cuda Jr" you mean a Camillus CUDA CQB-2, the scales on it are canvas micarta. To me, canvas micarta feels very secure unless it has been polished, and that is the same with G-10; It has a very secure feel unless it has been polished smooth.

nah, i meant Mini Cuda (C.U.D.A. actually; Camillus Ultimate Defense Almost-Auto)... i'm referring to this blade here (tanto and 154CM instead of ATS34):

it's quite a beaut'! i've taken to calling it Cuda Jr for reasons not apparent to myself... haha

I'm a G-10 fan all the way. It feels easier to grip, less slippery, and seems to warm to my hand more quickly.

Even the highly textured Micarta on my Busse's isn't as comfortable or secure feeling as my Strider Solution's G-10. Wish they'd switch to G-10.

I have very dry hands and find G-10 to be slicker than Micarta, even highly textured G-10 feels oily to me while. Just my body chemistry is all.

In my experience working these two materials, I would say micarta is generally grippier. If finished the same way, micarta is grippier. I also think micarta is way better when it gets wet. G-10 always seems smoother to me. I doesn't matter in my opinion how you finish these materials, as long as they are finished the same the micarata always feels grippier to me.

I like both G-10 and Micarta and have had customs and factory knives made from each, I tend to favor micarta for grip. In fact I had two customs made Identically except one had red G-10 and the other had Black Micarta handles. I preferred the looks of the G-10 and the feel of the Micarta, and they had the same finish...smooth. I also agree that G-10 sometimes feels oily to me.

I find textured G-10, like on my Spydercos, to be real grippy and I have a lot of confidence in it. I've only held polished micarta, so I can't compare.

A while ago, I poured water and oil onto some of my knife handles to test the grip. For some reason, Micarta felt much grippier when wet than G-10.

The main aspect that should be considered is the finish, G10 has a reputation for being "grippy" only because the finish is generally really rough (Strider) compared to most Micarta grips which are highly polished. Thus if you want a grippy handle don't be as concerned about what it is made out of, but how it is finished.

I am a fan of G-10, especially on the Benchmade 806D2, nice and rough, very grippy.

I don't think there are different grades of G10, rather various textures and finishes. G10 can also be polished smooth; a great example is the Kershaw Random Task Knife. You can also make it rough like sandpaper, such as on the older Buck/Striders.

I find that G-10 gets "pocket worn" and will smooth out a bit. This (to me) gives it a slick feel. But I do like 'em both !!

I agree totally with Cerulean.
My Spyderco JD Smith is polished black Micarta. A bit slippery under normal use, but, strangely, when my hand is wet, the knife becomes more grippy.Just the opposite of what you'd expect.

Slightly off topic, but I'm considering a knife with a Cocobolo handle. Is Cocobolo somewhere between textured g-10/micarta and polished micarta?
