The premium stockman is my favorite pattern. The big Schrade 8OT or Buck 301/371. I get by fine with my little peanut, and I'm on a two blade jack kick right now, but you just can't beat the good ol' premium stockman. The sowbelly stockman from Case couldn't even change my mind. I am looking for this one btw, but just to give you an idea of what I am talking about, the SM 2012 Heritage premium stockman

.

I had a really nice 5 blade stockman from Tidioute. I believe it was a Cuban stockman pattern? 56 or 57? Harvest orange bone, five blades, including a punch. I traded it back to the dealer I got it from, it lived in the tube for almost a year.

Does GEC produce a premium stockman under any of their brands like the 8OT or 301? I would like to see this pattern on a Northfield with a long pull on the main blade, and bone scales.

Does it have to be 4" as the 80T is or can it be a bit smaller - 3 1/2" to 3 7/8"?

Not in a serpentine frame like that, to the best of my knowledge.
The only ones they call "stockman" sit in that big ol' cigar frame, more like a cattle knife.

They have the "Calf Ropers" that are in a serpentine frame - 3 1/2" closed. They are a Stockman pattern - GEC just happens to call them "Calf Ropers". They have rounded bolsters not squared bolsters but they could be called a premium stockman. Here is one of the with the etching and then with the etching polished out.

It can be in between the size of the 34OT/303 and the 8OT/301. I've seen those calf ropers, nice knives, but not really what I was thinking of.

The Northfield Ropers look a lot different. I've been carrying mine in cocobolo for over a week now and it's great.

I really like the Northfield Calf Roper in the #66 frame. But, I'm enjoying my S&M Heritage premium in ebony a lot right now, and I need to look at Barlow's for July's Traditional of the Month :D
