Does my BM 770 have a problem?

Just got a pre-pro plain-edge 770 (carbon fiber axis). I already had a 710, which I think is the greatest production knife around. I especially like the way that the axis lock keeps the blade inside the handle with the spring tension.

I noticed that my 770 does not do a good job of this; the blade can come out of the handle 5-10 degrees and just sit there. If I pull the axis lock all the way forward where it belongs, the blade goes back into the handle. So it's all connected right; it's just that the springs don't seem to be able to overcome the friction that's keeping the blade open a little.

The blade action is definitely stiffer than my 710, which is buttery. I lubed the 770 with tri-flow and put it through a few hundred cycles. This smoothed up the action a little bit toward the top (where the blade is almost open). But it didn't do much for the area where the blade should be kept inside the handle. It acts like a liner lock with no ball detent but with some pivot friction.

Is this normal for the 770? If it is, I can deal with it, but if the springs should do a good job popping the blade back into the handle, I might have to send it in.

Whoa...e-utopia suggested that I should loosen the pivot screw a little. I did, and it worked! I had no idea that it even mattered on an Axis knife.

Strange that BM had it cranked so tight, but it's good to go now! And it even has nice edges.
