Does owning similar pocket knives bother you? Is there a reason to?

I want a try a spyderco out, and I am having issues deciding which one, I still like the paramilitary and manix 2, but I have a zero tolerance 0566 which is very similar, but I like US or at least japan made knives, although i trust the quality it would bother me to buy a chaparral made in taiwan for 120$.

So I am curious, if you have two blades that are similar in size and composition, do you usually end up using one all the time and shelving the other one, or do you like swapping them out?

I can see why that would be a good idea, reduces blade and pivot wear, could keep one in one jacket and the other in the car etc. But if you don't use both of them it would be wasted money in my mind.

I would prefer rotating them, but my reality is that I tend to carry the same EDCs all the time and the others sit on the shelf. It goes like that for months, and then I'll rotate to a different one for a while. You have to understand that I carry a SAK every day and the other knife gets rotated and it is often a Spyderco Delica or a new one to me, the Cold Steel Tuff Lite that I really like.

The spyder bites Bro. I bought a nice ZT 0560 18 months ago. 5 weeks ago I bought a Waved Matriarch 2. Since then I've gotten a Serrated Endura 4, Sage 3, Manix 2 XL, and today a Superhawk. I carry three at a time and change them out depending on where I'm going or what I plan on doing. I'm warning you though. Spyderco is very addictive
Back on Topic- I've got a Matriarch 2, Crossbill (Byrd), Superhawk, and I'm looking for a SpyderHawk. I love hawkbill knives

I don't think you will find too many people bothered by knives that a novice (non knife person) would consider similar. Some folks here have hundred of knives and dozens may have a striking resemblance. For example, some folks collect only one or two brands of knives, and they may all be similar because of the designer.

You also have to consider at some point there are some folks that collect and others that may have a couple knives and that is about it. I can't see why that would cause undue burden on folks.

Some of us collect.

And some of us have knives that are just so damn cool, that we just can't stand to have only one of them.

I don't mind having knives that are similar. I like changing out my EDC knives and having different knives to cary and use on different days or different weeks - even if the knives themselves aren't all that different. Variety can be the spice of life. Just because you like blondes, brunettes and redheads doesn't mean you shouldn't have more than one of each. :) If you are single, of course. I would never be unfaithful to my wife.

Take the 0566 and 0560, design wise they're almost identical minus a little bit of size, but one costs $140 and the other $200. Some people might not be able to see why - someone that's into knives can. The diffrence is titnaium vs stainless, flat vs 3D machined, assist vs bearings, etc. While knives may be very similar, it's details that make the diffrence.

ZT 0566 vs para 2? Frame lock vs compression lock, ELMAX vs CPM-S30V, assisted vs manual, thumb stud vs opeing hole, Oregon Vs Colorado, that's just my justifica - er, 2 cents. ;) it's your money to spend, buy what makes you happy. :)

Doesn't bother me. I just rotate from knife to knife when I want a change. They are different enough in design and materials that I don't feel like a DA having a few in the same size range.

+1 to that! I have several knives that are sized similar: Manix 2, Stretch, Rat 1, Paramilitary 2. They are all different, but they serve in the same role.
