If you're planning on ever using the knife, it will dull. It's the nature of the beast. Learn to sharpen your blades and it really won't matter at all. I went from not being able to sharpen a knife to save my life to being able to get hair splitting vgrinds with paper wheels and convexed edges that cut you by looking at them on a belt sander. Now I take new factory edges and make them better, and it really didn't take all that long to learn.

you'd need to do a lot of paper shaving before you dull your blade to unuseabl... but still you know how to sharpen dont you? i mean i'v heard of people honing edges on their car windows (dont do that) so paper if enough is cut will wear on the edge.

And aside from that, the stuff is basically tiny wood fibres cemented together into a sheet.

As per sharpening systems, if you're already a Spyderco fan, why not the sharpmaker?

Yes, using your knife, any knife, cutting anything, will eventually dull it. I thought we all knew that:)

...

Sooner or later, no matter how premium the steel, a knife that is used needs to be sharpened. Every knife owner should be able to sharpen a blade.

Dude, you have 100 posts since August, read more than you post. Check out the 'Maintenance and Tinkering' subforum there are a ton of threads on sharpening, and sharpening systems.

+1. Read more.

sandpaper and cardboard (compressed not corrugated)
and a hard flat surface for standard v grind
start w/ 320 girt 5 licks each side work your way down to 1 ea. side
next 600 (approx) same process
then 1100 to 1500 " "
last card board by then if your wrist is tired and you edge is still showing burr lightly stroke it against the cardboard and strop till ya drop.
It'll take some practice and it's much harder with convex contoured blades.
good luck!

8cr13mov is not the best steel, better learn to sharpen if your going to own a Tenacious. ;)

I don't have a sharpening system. Which should I get???

for most stuff its hard to beat a spyderco sharpmaker, if ya want a "system", i only use mine for quick "touch-ups" though, i dont like the clamp on systems myself, like the lansky, they tend to scuff your knife up, imho everyone should know how to use a flat bench stone, they will work on most everything and are cheap to boot, a good inexpensive stone is the norton hard india, an 8" india stone, a decent strop, and the ability to use them is all ya really need for anything.

Papers is actually quite tough material to cut, no matter how easily seems to be cut.
It can be used even as a strop, removing burr as the last stage of sharpening.
