Dear Buck knuts,
Does Paul Boss still heat treat Buck steels except 420 HC of course? I`m asking because of such an unsupported statement from a member in one bulgarian forum, claiming that Paul Boss doesn`t already heat treat more advanced Buck steels. I didn`t beleive that`considering my last purchase 192 CPM 154 with PBoss flame logo on it : http://www.snimka.bg/photo.php?photo_id=8984905 .But just want to be pretty sure about that:confused:.
Thank you in advance.

As far as I know,he still oversees the process, not sure that he actually personally does each blade, or if they are done to his specifications???

I see CJ is here, sure he can give you THE answer! :D

Paul Bos oversees our entire heat treat department, all metals including the 420HC. Paul finalizes every heat treat "recipe" or process for each steel and he does this through science, a lifetime of previous experience and trial and error. He trained the folks and they follow those processes, checking and carefully documenting those results at key stages to make sure the metal is taking the previous stage correctly (heat treat is a 3 stage process with high heat, followed by extreme cold, followed by medium heat).

Buck has invested in state of the art equipment and is one of the only US companies to still do our own heat treating because we do not trust anyone else to do it for us. We are the only company to consistently get the hardness we need out of 420HC so you get the wonderful corrossion resistance that comes naturally in the steel with enough hardness (without brittleness) to perform and hold an edge long enough to uphold Buck's reputation.

We decided not to mark the 420HC blades with the Bos flame so it would be a more special designation for the higher end custom steels but please know that the 420HC is heat treated under Paul's guidance.

Тhank you for your pretty clear answer CJ:thumbup:. I almost had no doubts about that, just wanted to be absolutelly sure about that fact. Many thanks once again.

I thought he did everytning including the 420, and I guess I was right about that assumption. The 420 cuts very good, and because it is a Buck, I would never hesitate to buy the knife. The other types of steel are a good selling point but with a touch up after use, 420 is razor sharp. I really like it alot.

Paul is THE MAN! I've been to the new Buck factory and had the grand tour with Paul.. The heat treating facility is absolutely incredible. He has also HT'ed every knife I ever made except for a few steels he dosnt work with, and I've never had a HT issue ever. He's also one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.;)

Тhanks to all of you for the replies. At the recent moment I have only six Buck knives - 2 Vanguards with S 30 V and 154 CPM, 110 Alaskian guide, Tempest with ATS-34, standart 119 and 105. I like them all especially Alaskian guide series. I`m looking for a custom made 110 `s with BG-42 and ATS-34 and 118 fb with sambar stag handle and D-2 steel.

If you are a member of the Buck Collectors Club you can see his picture and info on heat treating he does on page 5 of the 2008 Dealer Workbook.

Thanks !But I`m not a a member of the Buck Collectors Club so I couldn`t find the 2008 Dealer Workbook you mentioned.
