Does scotch-brighting or anodizing void the warranty?

I have a scotchbrighted Umnumzaan up for trade and had a guy tell me it voids the warranty. Is that true?

What exactly is scotch-brighting, and why would anyone do that to a CRK?

If you don't know what it is, why ask why would someone do it? It is taking a scrotchbrite pad and rubbing the titanium handles to get the bead blasting finish smoother. It looks pretty darn good once it is complete.

No need to be defensive.

So it's the handles only, not the blade?

Yes, it's basically just a way to prevent or get rid of the titanium marks that easily get there (on the handles). I think it makes the knife look really good. I've had some that almost felt chalky from the factory. I like either way, but a light scotch briting looks really good to me.
I can't imagine how it could possibly void the warranty. The guy was just being a bit picky. He offers me a trade of a slightly less value knife, then criticizes the scotchbrite and asks me to "work something out" to have it reblasted. I just told him to move on.

I bought one on the forums, without knowing exactly what the process was. It looks fine.

Not being defensive...just simply stating why ask why someone would do it if you don't have a clue what it is. It does not void warranty as far as I am aware, you pay for the SPA treatment at CRK and they re-blast the handles then.

Give it a rest, please.

I have a scotch-brighted CRK from the forums but didn't understand exactly what had been done to it -- or why.

Thank you.

It's totally logical for someone to wonder why a person would do something to their sebenza even if that someone does not know what is being done.

A person would ask why something is being done to a Sebenza even if they don't know what is being done to it because they are curious what is being done and they are probably wondering weather it is beneficial or not. Sebenzas are expensive production knives, so it makes perfect sense for a person to wonder why anybody would do anything to one of them.

Scotchbrite finish doesn't void the warranty, anodizing probably does. The anodized finish heats up the ti and can alter its strength.
