I just picked up a scrapyard dogfather and scrapper 6. I'm pretty new to quality knives, what can you tell me about these? How exactly are busse and scrapyard related? ....Snip.... What cool stuff should I know about them?

I carry a benchmade griptillian everyday while not at work and a sog flash 2 for work. I have a cold steel kukri for yard work and a kabar usmc fighting knife as a novelty and general camping use knife. Something tells me the cold steel and the kabar won't be getting used much anymore...

Also, any recommendations for a new sheath for the scrapper?

Nice knives man! Welcome to the forums. You're off to a great start with those two. What are they worth? They are worth every cent. :)

Cool stuff about Busse? Well when does one start? Don't let the 'scrap' in Scarpyard Knives fool you, you have yourself a couple of the toughest hard use production blades money can buy. These things will take so much abuse it's not funny. Maybe it's hysterically funny. Put them to the test and you'll see what I mean. Check this video out of the Scrapyard Scrapizashi in action...

The Busse Knife group is made of three brands -

Busse Combat Knife Company - the high end of the ultimate hard use knives on earth. Made of proprietory INFI steel. Also home to the amazing Busse Custom Shop.

Swamprat Knife Works - sort of a no frills version of the Busse Combat knives.

Scrapyard Knife Company - similar to Swamprat in quality and performance.

Dirtykoala, Welcome to the best forum on the internet(IMHO)!

You have yourself a couple of keepers:thumbup: Some of the best Scrapyard has put out:cool:

However, I had to remove your question about value as you are a blue registered user. According to rules site wide you must have a Gold membership or above to ask such questions. Please refrain from doing so until you have a gold membership or higher. Thank you:)

Howdy! You got two of the best knives ever made, imo the two best for the original price. Use them, abuse them, no worries! AZwelke makes some great sheaths, check him out. Next you need a 711 to keep things well rounded;-)

Thanks for the info everyone. the not being allowed to ask how much they are worth rule is a bit odd... .............Snip.............. Oh well!

I can't register at the scrap yard forum, they rejected my registration for some reason.

As far as sheaths, i like scrapper 6 because it's a good carry size, if I keep it I might get a nice leather sheath for it. I like the size and versatility of the dogfather though, but it's gonna be living in my truck and not getting much use.

Anyway, where do I start looking for kydex and leather sheaths? I would like kydex or nylon for my bug out gear.

Thanks, answered my question before I finished typing it!

The rule for asking values is for unpaid members only, a Gold or above membership allows for it. The Gold tier is a bargain for the price, and it also allows you to sell here, your current membership will not. Just for your information. :)

There is a sheath maker list on the "Sheaths and Such" forum. Might be a decent place to start. Lots of excellent makers on this forum.

I don't have much to add because everyone else covered it, but I will say a couple of things.

First of all, the Dog Father is an AWESOME knife. I've had 4 CGs and one LE (only have one of each now, but will be getting another that I will strip and blue pretty soon I hope.) Other than the Basic 11 the DF CG/LE is king in the Busse & Kin Res-C chopper category. The steel can certainly take a beating, and while it will not hold an edge as easily as SR101, it is a better chopping steel IMO. I say that mostly because I have trouble getting a good edge on a large 101 blade and also because it is more like INFI in the sense that the edge will roll rather than chip. In short, I have an easier time getting the edge I want and maintaining it with 77 versus 101.

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but Scrap Yard has a forum full of great Dogs. I would stop on over there and sign up.

Enjoy your new blades, and welcome to your new addiction!

Hey Dirtykoala,

Thank you very much for upgrading your membership. I am glad that my shorthand instructions on changing yourself to gold made sense
n
You have all the rights of gold, and may discuss your two wonderful new blades til your heart is content. The coated one IMO is worth about 200-250 albeit some Le's have sold at auction lately for over $700. I sold my last cg for 185 about a year or so ago. The scrapper I do not recall, but there are others here that can help.

Thanks again, and have a great day:)

Thanks hunter.

Any opinions on which i should keep if i had to sell one? i know its personal preference but what are everyone elses thoughts on the 2 knives? for some reason i like the scrapper more than the dogfather, it just seems like something i would use more, but when i think about selling one of them i want to keep them both. :?

Sell both and get a Swamp Rat! :D

Sorry, I had to, not a fan of Res C. :p

The Rodent 6 is up right now, and also the Rodent 4 and Rodent 9 are current. I like having a stable of blades to choose from when looking at the source.

You will regret selling either of those scrapyard knives. Keep them both!!!!! The are some great knives that are for sale at the scrapyard and the swamp rat stores. I would recommend that you buy as
As many as you can afford. The great thing about Busse kin knives is if you have to sell any in a emergency you will get your money back or more almost every time.

Two GREAT knives! A legendary chopper and one of the best all around camp knives. Enjoy beating the crap out of them!!! Now just go to the Scrapyard site and pick yerself up a nice 311 to round out set.

+1  If you like them keep them. I have traded/sold a couple that I liked and now am trying to replace :grumpy: BUT if there is something you aren't 100% about, sell it/them and get something else. Part of the fun is trying out all different models :D

well, i sold the dogfather, luckily i didnt have it for long enough to grow too attached. i really like how the S6 feels when i hold it, its a good size and still very beefy and capable seeming. now im searching for a new sheath for it.

any sheath recommendations with the following in mind?;
i like things that are built for function, yet look good.
i think im looking for a good nylon or kydex sheath, classic leather designs arent my style (though i do love the workmanship of them and how they look, its just not me)
i do like tactical-esque things, but not on a mall-ninja level.
speaking of mall ninja, if theres a sheath with a velcro patch on it for me to put a gadsden snake or entire flag, id love to know about it.

ETA- id like this to be an EDC sheath

does anyone know of any sheath makers that have patterns for the S6 on hand, or am i pretty much going to have to send it in? id like to avoid sending it in.

Check the sheath makers section... David Brown, AzWelke, and Mashed Cat are three kydex benders I can think of off the top of my head who have Busse and kin handy, you should really consider leather too, it really goes great with Res-C. For that I would recommend Leatherman... Good luck! Hope you don't miss that DF too much down the road, won't be so easy to replace ;)
