What is the maxium or minimum size requirement for you EDC? Let's consider that it's a perfect world and you can carry any size knife you want anywhere you want without worrying about if it's legal or not. What size is the minimum to acomplish all your cutting jobs what size is the maximum your willing to tote around???

For me 3" is the minimum and after 4" they get combersome and too tactical for me. but I'm kindof hoping this thread will change my mind about the 3" part. ;)

For me, there really isn't any purpose in my requirements - like yours - of having at least 3" of blade, and no more than 4". I asked myself why I'm like that, and I really don't know. Maybe for defensive purposes?

I also enjoy intimidating sheeple:D

Sorry, I'm not the person who will convince you to use less than 3":D

I carry 2, a Custom 2.5" neck knife and a 4" CRKT M18. I use the Neck knife for cutting open boxes and the M18 for cutting anything else.

My 2 EDC knives right now are my SS PE Police model (soon to become a serrated G-10 model), and my SS PE Delica...So my 2 EDC folders have blades that are 4&1/8 and 2&7/8 inches long. I also sometimes carry my Cold Steel Vaquero Grande with its' 6 inch-long blade. Of the 3, I feel most "protected" with the 6 inch-long blade.

Yes, I enjoy intimidating people with mine.

Oh, you were talking about knives? :D

Well, in that case, I think that a 3-4" blade is just about ideal for most purposes. My AFCK at a little under 4" is just pushing it, I hardly ever need such a big knife. For SD purposes, I think that a sub-4" blade is easy to handle, not as visible, and adequate for stabbing (I have no training and thank heavens, no experience).

My wife thinks so.;)

There is almost nothing I can't do where I live with a 3"-4" bladed knife and though I like bowies very much I don't see them as practical EDCs. I have found a couple of knives with blades in the 6"-7" range that I would carry and may just find myself doing that on occasion.

I tend to carry in the 4" range, only using smaller if I'm surrounded by sheeple and don't feel like a stampede.

My SS PE Dragonfly with 2 1/4" seems small when I got my millie and started using it. Currently waiting on a Meerkat(sub 2") and working out a deal for a Salsa(2 7/16", but about 2 1/4" edge).

My current carry(don't feel like unloading for work tommorrow so I've been light today) is my CE Millie(2.5" PE, 1.5" SE), PE Calypso jr lt(2.875"), and the PE Salsa(from the passaround). I'll be using the Salsa at work tommorrow, so I'll have an idea about usefullness.

My fixed are all 4", I have 1 5"(boot knife). I find 4" to work for most tasks.

On equal cutting edge I feel more comfortable with a 3.5 to 4 for the folders and with a 5 to 6 for the fixed blade.

I use a small wenger pocket knife because it won´t scarry anyone and is more than enough for my daylly cutting tasks. Since I barelly need to cut something it's the right EDC for me. I can't really tell you if I'd bother to carry a bigger knife as an EDC but it wouldn't have a blade bigger than 2-3''.

I use my Benchmade 31 ( 3" blade ) and Leatherman Wave ( 3 " blade ) as my EDC´s, and for cutting and stabbing I don´t really need more than these.

I recomend you, take some Self Defense training just in case and train with your EDC´s in order to know the power that you can get with your knowledge and a 3" blade.

"Does size matter? " Yes and no. Yes if your knife
is to big for the job or to small. No, if it is
about the size a good kitchen paring or boning
knife. That's about 3>5 inch blade.

These lengths seem to just right for 99% of everything except chopping trees. So for my
money a well made 4 1/4" Stockman will get you
through life doing literally everything that
needs done from box opening to deer cleaning.
The blade sizes in a 4 1/4" stockman are ideal
for both urban and country / outdoor living.

If I need to chop somthing I get the ax.:D

We know you're asian, so we MUST be talking about knives...LOL;)

In the 4" range is fine for me for EDC. 3" would probably be OK really.., but I have big hands so most of the handles on smaller knives just don't feel so good...

I prefer 3.5 inch EDC blades. 3.25 - 3.75 is cool but most every knife I've handled that sported a 3.5 inch blade had a handle that was just the right length for my hand. My current EDC is a Emerson Mini Commander and I don't see that changing any time soon.

I guess a mid sized blade from 4" to 6" would be best for a fixed blade to carry in the city (a cross-draw or shoulder sheath would make it easier to drive with) and maybe a 7.5" blade for the country. A larger one would be a bit bulky unless I have a reason to carry it, like if I am chopping things. Of course small knives are useful too. Who says you can only carry one? I usually carry 3.

Until recently I prefered my EDC to be between 3.5" to 4", but I have been looking at smaller knives. I took a very serious look at how I use my knives and determined that a 4" blade didn't do anything I couldn't do with a 3" or smaller blade. I don't really subject my knives to a great deal of hard use. So now I'm sort of looking for a small knife. I recently purchased a Spyderco Navigator, and that is a great little knife, especially for $29 (SMKW has them on sale). I am not that keen on the finger grooves the Navigator comes with, I'm starting to take a good look at the Benchmade 705 and 77X series of knives. I have been thinking about waiting for the new Spyderco Dodo with their new "Ball lock", but my size requirements have changed over time. I still like larger folders, but not as an EDC.
