Does someone do the blade choil modification to the ZT 0560?

I'm pretty sure I saw a video on a guy who'd done one and it would just about make that knife perfect, but I can't recall who the guy was. Anyone know?

I'm talking about the XM-like modification to the blade to create a choil in front of the current choil, if that's not clear.

So-Lo. Johnsonknives @ Gmail. He's the one I send my knives to whenever I need work done on them. He does the choils on the 560.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, hoarding is nasty. I've known two, one who knew she needed help and the other in denial. If there's ever an apocalypse, though, they'd have all the stuff.

I did it to mine. Turned out pretty nicely. I polished it off nicely, looks like it was always there

Yep, that's the same guy I contacted about my new Southard. That is a very desirable modification. Maybe he'll give me a deal on doing both the 561 blade and rounding off the Southard scale at the same time? He also does some beautiful anodizing, but if I get the knives looking too pretty I"ll never use them.

Thanks, Chris. If I recall correctly from that Cryo modification video you've got a drill press, right? I think I'd be afraid to eyeball something like this. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it.

Here's mine. I'm pretty happy with it. And yes, I did the Cryo mod as well. :) However, my name isn't Chris...

Sorry, thought I saw that name used. Anyway, that's a very nice mod. You could probably carve a graven image of something with that. :-)

You know I just noticed something else about this. The placement of the jimping on the flipper doesn't make any sense in terms of opening the knife. The XMs have the jimping in the same place, so either it facilitates closing the knife or it's used with the front choil. But there is no front choil on the 56x unless it's modified. I've just been watching people flip the Southard and the design of that flipper seems better, or more effective, for flipping it open. And the Southard flipper is actually a lot like the Skyline, which seems much easier to open. The more I practice with the 561 the worse I seem to be getting at it. Maybe my fingers are getting tired or something.

Anyway, I think that second choil is *supposed* to be there.

Have sent him a couple of messages, but he hasn't responded. Probably away at a knife show or something. I really like his work, though. More subtle and refined than some of the other pimpers out there that seem to think the objective is to duplicate the look of the stone age.

SolosKnifeReview (Randy) can do a finger choil for you.
Here's the choil I put on a stonewashed handle Cryo next to a 3" XM-18 & a green/blue/bronze anodized ZT0561

Who did the anodizing on the o561? Way nice looking!

Wait he anodizes? Could he remove the anodization, and re-anodize?

He has a video about his "Midas Touch" anodizing.

I eventually heard from him once but he never got back to me about what to send and where to send it, so I modified my Southard on my own with a tin can and some sandpaper. 3D-ed and sculpted the G10 scale. It looks nice, like an exotic piece of black walnut, but there's not much texture. I'd prefer not to have to do the blade choil modification myself, though.
