How AWESOME! The top knife is the one I want---exactly! Nice amount of reveal from the sheath for easy removal, and the wood and leather look great! When can I get one???????????????????

This is actually to "open up" very soon......!!!

Not sure of the full story, but I did check those out at PWYP (Practice What You Preach) & they were very nice. I saw them get some use for food prep.

I also saw 2 other standard Koster Nessmuks besides mine. I believe the chopping competition was won by a Large Koster Nessmuk.

Those look great as is.

Beware of buffers. They're the most dangerous tool in any shop.

:)

I believe it's blue/black G10 actually.

It's got a really nice grippy finish to it too.

It looks much better now that I've got it all cleaned up and then got it nice and dirty while using it to break down some logs for an after-dinner fire in the fire pit tonight.

You NEED one of these Jason.

Oh, I didn't put the color on them the first time...

They made the trek to PWYP in North Carolina weekend before last and got used, and passed around, and used some more, and passed again. Apparently nobody thought to give them a good wipe down before they came back home.

Believe it or not, 1095 (or O1--whatever steel these are) can and will rust if left wet for an extended period (like a week.)

I hit both bevels on a Scotchbrite belt today and cleaned all the gunk off. I don't know what it was but it sure didn't stand a chance.

I plan on using it some more and then (maybe) it'll make its way back to JRE one of these days...

Well I can honestly say I never thought I would see "Thong Holes" anywhere near a reference to the Koster Bushmaster!
LOL!

The two Bushmasters Dan K sent with us to North Carolina were used and abused and smacked around by 90 folks on a mountain top.

Dan wanted to get these bad boys into the hands of some people that were not all that familiar with his work for some serious in the field testing.

Everyone was more than impressed.
Not one person said that they did not like the knife.
They all had their opinions and preferences over which of the 2 knives they liked better, but they all liked the design.
Great Testimony.

The fast facts are as follows:
About 80% of the folks preferred the wood handle over the grippy Blue and Black G10 handle. There was no definitive reason, it was just an opinion or a preference.
Most of these folks are way more into the Bushcraft Styles than the Tactical Styles.

The score was about 50 / 50 when it came to the tapered tang.
So I guess if these are ever put into a production run, poor Dan will HAVE to make that an option!

If I can find some folks who took some pictures of them in action I will get them here!

THANKS DAN!
