A knife of higher quality that is the same size and style of the tenacious? I really like the tenacious but would like a little harder steel and made in USA.

Thanks

Nothing that's completely identical to the Tenacious in blade shape, locking mechanism, etc. But the Manix 2 and Para 2 are around the same size, offer better steels, and are USA-made.

Para 2 and Yojimbo 2 come to mind, the Manix 2 has the lowest price you'll find for something made locally (from Spyderco).

US made and similar to a Tenacious is a tough match. As neuron and Joshua stated, the Manix 2 and Para 2 or perhaps a Native 5. An Embassy or the now disco'd Citadel which are both autos would be the only other options really. I would argue though that the Yo 2 while being a fantastic knife in its own right, is nothing like the Value line with regard to form or function.

If you can let go of the US only ideal, the Sage series from the Taiwan maker (though a bit smaller...almost dead on with a Persistence) are extremely well constructed, excellent knives that are worth looking at. Many have stated and I will concur that the fit and finish coming out of the Taichung factory is currently the best in the Spyderco line up. That is not to say that other makers are producing inferior knives, rather, the craftsman working on the Taiwanese Spydies do one hell of a fine job and must all be perfectionists because that's exactly what you'll get with any model produced there.

It's going to be hard to match those requirements. In my mind, the closest Spydie I can come up with is the Sage 1. It's got a liner lock, S30v, steel liners with scales. From an engineering perspective, it's along the same line. But the differences are that it's a little shorter in blade length, has a choil, made in Taiwan, and is a bit more upscale with CF scales.

Among the US made Spydies, the Para 2 is my go to choice. The finger choil is something I've come to really appreciate and the compression lock is perhaps the sturdiest of all locking mechanisms available. It's quite a bit different compared to a Tenacious but you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

Not US, but I nominate the Gayle Bradley - virtually same blade length, no choil, liner lock and if the Tenacious gets tough use because it's cheap the GB gets tough use because it is really made for it.

Hi PC87,

Our maker of the Tenacious is currently testing a USA made streel from Carpenter called CTS-BD1.

We could make the Tenacious in the US, butit would be as much as a Military.

It's pretty hard to compete with the Chinese Yuan at about 1/4th to 1/5 the US dollar.

Thanks Mr. Glesser, I would be first in line to purchase that new steel in the tenacious. I really like the tenacious and understand the pricing would have to be different if made in the states. Its impossible to compete with their currency, such a shame, but it is what it is. I will keep my eye open for this new steel in the tenacious and am looking forward to purchasing several of those.

If you have the time, keep us posted on the possible timing of this new offering.

Once again thanks, and oh I have carried your knives for 22 yrs, first knife I ever bought was a spyderco endura.

Apart from the Tenacious range, all Spyderco's larger knives seem to have large choils. I wish they would produce a few larger blades without choils. Granted, they are coming out with the Lionspy, but that is a high cost collaboration model, which I won't be getting as I already have a SR-1. I would love them to produce something similar to the Resilience, but with a better steel and preferably out of a slightly thicker stock.

Don't get me wrong, I like the models with choils - I have manixes, (para)militaries, stretches, superhawk/leaf, etc - but it would be nice to also have a the option of a couple of models in the regular line up without choils. Are others with me on this?

Thanks guys for the info, but after looking at your suggestions, I think the tenacious is in a size and style all by itself. I think I will wait until Sal produces one with better steel.

At the price point of the tenacious, which is why the knife sells so well, it is a higher quality knife than most other manufacturers are producing, at that price point. If spyderco will produce a model with better steel at close to the price point they are at now, I don't see why it will not have even larger demand. The tenacious is IMO the perfect size for EDC. They could add some better steel, G-10, and still make it in china and maybe raise the price 10-15$, it would still be a huge seller.

Just my opinion though.

yea i would pick up one too. I know it really doesnt make much of a difference but it gives me a sense of pride to see made in usa stamped on something
