Does Spyderco reblade knives?

Hello. I have a Spyderco Police model I purchased around 1990 or so. I carried it for 8 years before I bent the tip by accidently dropping it on a tile floor. When I tried to straighten it, I broke about 1/8th of an inch off the tip. I reground the tip on my sharpening stones, but it was just not the needle-tipped razor it used to be, and I ended up replacing it with another knife. The Spyderco has some sentimental value, and I would like to get it fixed rather than just buy a new police model. Does anyone know if Spyderco does reblades, and if they do, about what does it cost? Thanks for any help.

Keep the knife for its sentimental value and buy a new one to use. If you replace the blade, then you loose all of the character of the knife and it really isn't the same knife that you started with. Just my 2 cents. :)

There is a guy on this four that does blade re-profiling. There were some photos on his review that looks really amazing. That would allow you to keep the sentimental value of the entire knife.

They told me they make way too many blades in way too many different steels that it would be almost impossible to stock all those blades for reblading old and broken knives.
Kinda sucks but it's completely understandable.

Imagine if you could buy a regular Pm2 and then buy a sprint blade for it.

Don't forget that with all the CQI that Spyderco does, it'd be incredibly unfeasible to keep stock of all the small changes that they have implemented in all their blades.

This is what I was afraid of....that the newer blades wouldn't fit in the older handles. As to the sprint steels, that shouldn't be an issue at all. They could just do re-blades in one particular steel.....whatever their "budget/base model" blades are made of. This is what Buck does, though they used to offer re-blading in upgraded steel. I believe my old Police model is VG-1 or VG-10. I'd have to dig it out of the safe and check it to be sure. I don't want to replace it with another Police model, I just wanted to know if I could get it "fixed" since it has sentimental value. It was a gift to me, and it was also my first one-hand opening knife with a clip. As I said in my original post, when I broke the tip, I replaced in with another knife (Benchmade AFO) which I carried for 12 years, until 2010. My EDC knife four the last 3 years has been a Military. I just really wanted to put my Police model back into action with that needle point blade. The regrind I did is very functional, but it's like it's a different knife. If I hadn't broken the tip, I would probably be in my 20th year of EDCing it!

I appreciate the replies. I kinda thought they didn't do re-blading since I couldn't find any info on their website addressing it. BTW, I've carried a Spyderco Harpy (stainless handle, like my poor Police model) everyday at work for 15 years now.

FWIW, I think VG-1 is a Cold Steel proprietary name. At any rate, Spyderco has never used it and only started offering the Police in VG-10 around 2003. If yours has steel markings, it was made sometime after 1992 and if it's from the early 90's it will be GIN-1 marked as G-2, if it's from the mid to late 90's it will be marked GIN-1.

VG-1 is a different steel from VG-10 altogether. I believe that Cold Steel's San Mai steel is VG-1 laminated steel.

Okay, you guys got my curiosity up, so I dug my Police model out of the safe (no easy feat!). It says "G-2 Stainless" on the blade, so I stand corrected about the steel type. I'm pretty sure I bought it in 1990, though it could have been 1991 or even early 1992. I could swear I saw VG-something (10, apparently) on one of my Spydercos. I'm thinking maybe on my Harpy, but I can't check since it's in my locker at work right now. I'm pretty sure I purchased my Harpy prior to 2003 though, if that is, as Deacon says, when they started offering that steel.....at least on the Police model. I also checked my wife's Dragonfly (guess who gave it to her lol), and it says "ATS-55." The only other Spydercos I own are a NIB Lum and one of those tiny ones...Bug I think. Really curious where I saw VG-10.....

Anyway, I really wouldn't care what steel was used for a re-blade, as long as it was decent. 440c, ATS-34, G-2, or VG-10 would all be fine with me.

Looking at my Police model now, it's not as bad as I remember it (it's been a few years since I had it out of the safe). I'll try to post a picture of it later if I can figure out how. You would think I would have posted a picture before after being on this forum since 2007, but you'd be wrong.....
