Does the Dragonfly loosen up?

I bought a Dragonfly 2 a few days ago and so far I love this knife, I was looking for an EDC I could forget was in my pocket but could perform well when called upon and so far this folder falls perfectly into that category. My only issue so far is that I need to push it all the way through deployment into lockup. I understand most folders need to loosen up a little before they become really smooth and quick, but I've been obsessively opening and closing my Dragonfly attempting to loosen it up and it hasn't really smoothed out much. Has anyone used one for a long time? Does it loosen up and start opening with an easy flick or do you still have to push yours all the way through to lockup? It is still a handy blade I just know I'll like it more if it would eventually open quickly and smoothly. In the mean time the spyder hole is good enough for most of my day to day.

the pivot is a screw. you can adjust the tension with a torx bit.

I have the Dragonfly salt for 4 months, which doesn't have any washers. It can only be flicked opened, but my thumb has to follow it all the way through. Different knives need different a technique to flick or even to open them smoothly. You'll get used to opening your dragonfly.

Mine has to be opened slowly and can't be flicked open like a heavier or larger blade. I haven't touched the pivot screw because it is already centered and I don't want to change that. While I have to open it slowly, I will say that it is smooth on the whole trip. It just won't flick open like a Para 2 or Manix 2.

Have you tried the pivot screw? My G10 has loosened up just a small amount. With a smaller knife I don't mind that it is a little harder to flick open.

I could flick mine open, but it required a significant wrist snap in addition to thumb flick. It's just the physics of the small mass blade, I think. I'm sure it could be lubed to flick open with a hard thumb flick. But because of the small blade mass it will never flick open like a Manix 2 or even a Delica.

Part of the issue is that it is a lock-back (the lock is spring-tensioned against the tang the entire way through attempting to flick it open), and the other part is that the blade has so little mass that it doesn't really have a lot of inertial force vs. the force against it via the lock (and the scales against it via the pivot-screw).

You can loosen the pivot a little (I did that on my H1 and G10 versions to get it just right) and it shouldn't affect blade-centering (it did not affect blade-centering on either on mine). I can flick mine open now, but I'm used to flicking open lock-backs (Delicas are even harder).

I've kind of gotten a technique down using a minor wrist snap with a thumb flick to where it opens almost like a larger knife but I do see how there is not enough mass in the blade to cause it to swing through to the open position without some inertial help. No bother, it is still perfect as my small EDC, I have a BM Mini-Barrage so when I feel like having a quick deployment option I can just carry that. The dragonfly has so far been proving to be a great blade to forget is in my pocket until I need it, nice edge retention so far also. Not amazing, but better than expected.

The knife is so small and light (in any configuration of steel or handle material) that it does not lend itself to flicking. Personally, I don't understand why anyone would want to of need to have that inertial opening as an option. Also, most knives with a lockback design have strong detents compared to say liner locks or frame locks.

I usually like knives that are able to be flicked open because I am able to return my hand to the using grip faster than if I have to bring the blade all the way into lockup. I didn't really expect this knife to flick open like an assisted or anything I was just curious if it would eventually get a little smoother, either way it's just a backup utility blade/light EDC knife for me so no big deal.

I've thought about adjusting the pivot screw I'm just a little apprehensive about accidentally causing some blade play, it doesn't bother me enough yet to mess with it.
