I have the mini Grip yellow and it's in 440C. That does not cut it anymore, I want better steels. I would like it in S30 or D2.

I know the make it in 154CM and thats my nr. 2 choice if I can't have other steels.

You can get a Ritter Grip/Mini Grip in S30V. They had a run of Ritter's in M2 at one point.

I will say this, I think 154 is the right steel for the knife. Reason is that it is easier to sharpen in the field than the S30V and the D2. If I were concerned heavily with corrosion resistance I would get the S30V, if with wear resistance the D2. However for EDC and such the 154 has worked for me, as would the 440C. Is there a reason you are shying away from the 154? Just wondering.

Funnily enough, the knives I've had the most trouble with getting rust spots is S30V ones. Everything else except AUS-8, such as VG-10, has been less troublesome. Just my own experience.

I have NEVER had any trouble with rust spots on any S30V blade that I own, and I live in a humid environment too.

Learn how to sharpen your knife. It will cut again.

My S30V Native developed rust after a week in the tall grass of my pond dam. When I found it, it was beginning to rust, and there had been only dew. I caught it in time. I lost it again a few weeks later, and have not found it and likely won't. I'd hate to see it 2 months later.

I have so few in these steels and none fit for EDC. I love the mini grip. I want to try out the S30 and put a 12-15 deg. grind on each side and see how it holds up.

I'm having problems ordering one. I have only found them in D2 in Cabellas but they won't ship them to my country. I have tried a few online knife shops but haven't found the grip in any other than 154.

Any suggestions?

Cabelas is the only source for a new Griptilian in D2, occasionally they show up in the exchange here on BladeForums, and Ebay in the second hand market.

Check the link above for the Ritter Griptilian at aeromedix.com if you want S30V. That link is for the full size, but the mini size is also available in black and in yellow. The Ritter Griptilian has a somewhat thinner edge grind than the "regular" Griptilian, so if you are after a thinner edge then that's the way to go.

My mini Ritter in S30V has held up fine with the thinner edge.

As for 440C and 154CM, I suspect that in actual use you might have trouble telling them apart if the blades are not labeled. I also have a mini Griptilian in 440C, and I find the S30V holds its edge noticeably longer. I'm sure part of this is due to the steel, and part is due to the thinner edge.

Excellent reasons ;) I would suggest going to www.aeromedix.com and ordering the ritter grip. It will cost you, but will most likely be worth it. Good luck to you.

AS stated the grip has come in 440C, 154cm, S30V, D2, and M2 in various incarnations...

556 in 440C
558 in S30V
556 in D2
555HG in 154CM
558 in M2 High Speed

The Mini RSK Mk1 HS (M2 Mini Ritter Grip ..or 558M2-600), is my favourite knife, bar none. I have a user and one kept in reserve.
