Does the Griptilian use the EDGE as a blade stop?

My BM 556 appears to stop the closing blade by the edge contacting the grip interior. I don't see a kick and the axis lock obviously does not wedge against the small choil behind the edge.

It should stop on the axis bar itself. I had a 705 whose edge contacted the backspacer but that was an anomaly.

On my griptilian, the axis bar engages the choil to stop the blade upon closing. There is more than a couple of mm of space between the edge and the interior of the knife

You can test if the blade is indeed stopped by the axis bar.

With the knife closed pull the axis bar back like you were going to axis flick it, but don't flick it. While still holding the axis bar back, squeeze the blade like you were trying to close it even more than it already is. While still squeezeing the blade closed, release the axis bar. If it goes forward then the blade isn't being stopped by the axis bar. If it stays back for as long as you squeeze it, then the axis bar is stopping the blade.

P.S. Mine stays back, and the blade is therefor stopped by the axis bar.

This is not normal, nor acceptable. If you send it into Benchmade, they will repair/replace it free of charge and have it back to you in just a little bit.

Tried the Flying Muskrat test. It IS being held by the bar. I was mistaken. It just LOOKED that way.

Thanks all.

I can see that my flicking it .... CLOSED
does not seem to be the best idea in the world.
which is something I have done since I got the knife.

When flicking CLOSED, the blade goes to the backbar and on releasing the axis lock springs UP a tiny bit.

So.... learned sumpin.

I think it's an indicator of a 'better quality' folder that the blade never contacts the spine of the knife, even when snapped shut.

This goes for 'modern' designs, I understand that slippies and other classic folders behave differently and must be closed with care.

However, I love being able to snap my Griptilian open and closed, with no worry of damaging the blade. Probably not the best thing in the world to do to a folder, but it's an EDC user, so there you go.
