Because it does to me. I bought it off the auction place.
Seller said "Leatherman black are known to have scraces on them they come that way right from leatherman".
To me this looks like something that shouldn't have left the factory

I've only seen them look like that in the clamshell packaging at BX/PX's. Black one's I've gotten in the box NEVER looked like that due to being stored in the sheath when shipped.
That looks like it may have either been stored in a drawer or a vehicle console.
If you got a really good deal I would't sweat it. If you paid even close to what they normally cost........... well , that's up to you , I'd get an exchange or , my money back if I was a collector.

Used as in somebody carried it in their pocket with their keys for a while and returned it.
There is some minor scuffing on the clip and serrated blades. The screw driver bit coating is worn where the spring engages.

I paid $65. It was packaged in a box but wasn't stored in the sheath. Returning it isn't worth the price of shipping it back since it's going to be a user anyway.

This is why, unless your job requires the black oxide coating for corrosion resistance or glare reduction, the black multi's are to be avoided. Even if it was new, it would be scuffed up in no time, and most often people pay more for the black finish. On the other hand, no one can accuse you of not using your tools ;)

I live just 100ft away from the Mediterranean. The sea is part of my daily life. Coating is not required, but it sure helps

It looks verry used. Be wary of comments that say something often comes from the factory damaged/worn that is most likely a very rare occurance.
