Does the Sharpmaker work with kitchen knives?

Sure, it will work fine with any knife. However, the sharpmaker is not good at fixing a damaged blade (chips, rolls, etc). It should be used more as a maintanence tool, don't let your knives get dull and it is great and quick!

If the corners of the Sharpmaker stones will not fit in between the smallest serration in the pattern, then the serrations will eventually be ground off the knives. Serrations that are the size of the typical Spyderco serration or larger should be maintained well on the Sharpmaker. :)

It's worked well on my Wusthof Grand Prix knives as well as my Kutmaster serrated steak knives.

It will work, but it won't be fast. A full on waterstone (i.e. Shapton, Chosera, etc.) would probably be better for the job if you have the free hand skills. Like the others have said, it's going to work ok for touch ups, but not well for repairs.

The stones are at the wrong angle for use on high grade Japanese kitchen knives, the ones with narrow angle edges, per my understanding. Should be good for normal edge angle kitchen knives as I have had good results.
