I'm looking for a multitoIol pocket knife for everyday use that fits comfortably in your pocket without any clips. My main criteria is a locking blade and screwdrivers. I wad looking at the leatherman skeletool and was wondering if it fits nicely inside your front pants pocket.
Thanks for any help

I have the Skeletool CX and it carries easily. The clip will attach to the top of the jean pocket and the bottom of the multitool won't hit the bottom of your pocket, but it will still stay in place...the 154CM holds a good edge as well.

Gotta say its pretty nifty. You might find it a little beefy for something called skeletool. Nice size still, but no point in getting the CX. That tiny sliver of carbon fiber doesn't justify the price. Take my word for that, I'm using a CX.
The skeletool should be able to comfortable handle most tasks you throw at it, well, if you're not going for war that is. You might wanna get a extra bit set to equip the skeletool instead of the standard Philips and flat heads.

It's a pretty nice package for something you can find under $70.

A sliver of carbon fibre is not the only difference...the skeletool comes with 420HC where as the CX has 154cm. The CX can be had for $60 and the regular skeletool for a fraction of this.

agree; the CX model doesn't make cutting any quicker or easier. i'm an efficient guy; i don't like spending extra dollars for looks or for "better" steel on a small utility blade.

Thanks for all the help so far.

It carries great in Carrhart or Dickies type work pants. My wife got me a Style for Christmas and its also a handy little tool. Tried it on my keyring and it kept coming off so i just carry it my pocket now. don't even know its there til I want it.

I carry mine on my front belt loop with the carabiner. Just be careful it doesn't open a little bit.

Was looking at the SAK wenger evolution S111 and evogrip S16
I have a nice gerber for my belt but wanted an everyday knife I could carry around in my pocket.
I just wanted a nice lockblade for cutting string in the garden and all the other regular things you might need to just snug up with a phillips etc.
Didn't want it to big or bulky and being made here in the states is a definite plus

I really like the skeletool, but the reason I like it is that I like to carry knives with pocket clips and thumb studs or thumb holes. I thought I could carry a skeletool instead of my normal folding knife and have the best of both worlds but the problem is that I have too many nice folders that compete with the skeletool.

The pocket clip is one of the best features of the skeletool, if you drop the tool in your pocket then you are not using the clip. The tool would carry in your pocket just fine but it has some sharp corners that might wear your pockets.

I have several multitools for different occasions. The Juice is the one that I carry just dropped in my pocket. It has rounded ends and would not wear the cloth of the pocket.

Thanks
Maybe I'll go with the juice s2 for everyday use and get a nice lock blade for times when I might need it.
I do a mighty fine job ripping up my pants pockets with all the things I clip onto them without any further help.

Don't forget that the Skeletool CX also includes a plain edge blade, vs. the combo edge on the standard Skeletool. If you plan on using the knife a lot, this might be an important factor. Also, note that this is a reversal of how these models used to ship: a few years ago, the standard model bore the plain edge and the CX had the combo. At some point, Leatherman swapped the two so if you're buying used, make sure you know which version you're getting.

As for the topic, I prefer to use the clip on my CX, while my coworker drops his down in one of his side cargo pockets. Both methods seem to work well for each of us, so I don't expect you'll have any issues, whichever way you go. As long as you're okay with the size and weight, you'll do fine carrying it without the clip.

Thanks for all the help so far.
I've never used a combo blade before. I'm mainly going to use the knife for cutting string, rope, wood and fishing line.
Is it worth it to pay the extra $20+ to get the straight blade?

That's a tough call. The better steel in the CX will get you an edge that lasts longer between touch-ups and in my experience, takes a finer edge. The serrations of the standard model (should you buy the more recent version) work well for rope, twine, etc., and tend to cut even after the edge is dull, since it still continues to "rip" material.

For me, it really comes down to how often you plan to maintain the edge. If you are just absolutely slaying rope all day, every day and don't mind touching up in the field, you could go either way. If you don't care to sharpen much at all, the combo edge will probably "get you there" for a longer period between sharpenings.

Thanks for all your help.
I went with the combo blade skeletool and style cs package
Bought it just a few minute

Try hooking the tool upside down in your pocket by the bottle opener carabeener. It stays put due to the gate and is almost entirely hidden. In fact it rides so well like this I can carry it in the office with loose slacks on!
