Does the "zip tie wave" scratch the blade?

For anyone that has modified the Spydie hole with a zip tie wave, could you tell me if the zip tie has scratched your blade? I know that this might sound like a odd question, because the knives are meant to be used and hence scratched, but while I do not mind the scratches on the cutting part of the blade (which I polish out from time to time), for some reason I hate to have some on the rest of the blade, especially my coated ones.

Several variables here. First, it would depend on the steel. H-1 and the 420J2 outer layer of the laminated ZDP-189 scratch much more easily than any of the other steels Spyderco uses. Then, while plastic itself should not scratch steel, there's always the possibility that fine particles of dust/dirt/grit can become embedded in the zip tie, or trapped between it and the blade, and cause scratches.

I've seen people use mulitpul small zipties to minimize the front to back movement on the hole. I've never had my one big zipties scratch my VG-10,8cr13mov,ats-55 blades. When they get loose and start to wiggle I replace them. Catamount makes really good zipties. Available at Home Depot (you can do it , we can help)

I use a single black zip-tie from my work medium to larger sized. Has never scratched VG-10, S30V, or 154CM. Only time I scratched the blade was when removing the zip-tie with another knife.

Who cares. This is like old bubba's with their 3,000 dollar 1911's that get all huffy puffy if they get a scratch on it. Use the darn thing!
