Described as a Medieval Horseman's Battle Axe....asking price $200.00 which seems a good deal if that description is accurate...could be a Victorian copy but even that would probably be worth $200.00

I'm no expert but I wouldn't think it's mediaeval, that would make it 500 years old at least.....
Gut feeling is it's fairly modern, too neat & corrosion free.

But I could be totally wrong. ;)

It's from a collection of very old tools being sold off so my take is that it isn't say after the 1930's or whatever but if it was 15th century or even 16th century it would be in remarkable condition. A lot of armor and stuff like this was reproduced in the 1800's but even those things are pretty cool and high quality.

I do know I wouldn't be interested in forking over $200 for an unknown provenance novelty. You've got to do a lot of homework on stuff such as this in order to be satisfied that it's authentic. Is it a simple polished casting of pot metal with no evidence of forging or strategic poll or blade hardening? Is there a maker's stamp that is verifiable with historical records? It's very easy to get duped into becoming the owner of an expensive paperweight or doorstop!

Yeah...only this photo on the site so not much to go by.I'll probably pass but stuff like this can get the imagination going and you do wonder what the actual history is if it's indeed old.Too may unanswered questions like you say though.
