Bruce,

Of course I like the look of this guard since I have two of the three you made.

Aside from the aesthetics, there is purpose to that guard in relationship to the blade cutouts. That is to catch an opponent's blade.

The first bowie I got from you works fine with blades of 1.5" and less in depth. With this bowie, I specifically wanted to expand the width of the guard, have it more upturn, and to give more distance from the inner bottom of the guard to the blade cutouts so this bowie can be effective in catching larger/deeper blades. I think you succeeded but I will let you know when I test it out.

Gee Thanks Tom.....Sorry but it is being sent to Sing,He will have to make that choice.....I was just curious if I had executed the style properlyso that not only being functional it was pleasing to the eye.I am very glad that Sing ordered this style guard as it gave me a big challenge that i had been wanting to try,This is one reason that i love making knives,I never quit learning something new........Bruce

Jeeze, Tom, giving it to you would be "throwing it away." The blade would rust out in a day. Now, if it were talonite...

Nice looking guard and great looking knife Bruce.

Sing, I know this is what James Keating teaches, but catching opposing blades on your edge and that near your hand is asking for a whole bunch of things to go right. Scares me!

Jerry,

Truthfully, any fight with a knife would scare the $hit out of me even given time to think about it. But, $hit can happen. Awhile back I interrupted a mugging. BG went for a concealed weapon. I beat him to it by pulling my folder and hiding it next to my leg. He pulled a gun.

I backed out there and the guy took off the other way. Truthfully, I think I like Tom M.'s approach better.

The blade catching is incidental with a good design. Works even with the cheap pakistani trainers.

TJ Smith,If you really want to know how I made this guard email me and I will try to explain the process the best I can,This goes for any body that is curious..This way I dont have to put a big posting on the forum......There is also a way for stock removal makers to do a guard like this....Bruce
