I like to have alot of variety in my collection. I want to own at least one of every make, every blade steel, every lock mechanism, every handel material... ect. So I often buy sprints which have the exotic blade steels, designes, and handle materials. Recently I bought my first Paramilitary 2 with m390 and blue G10. Not having owned a m390 blade or a compression lock it was a nice addition to my collection. Now that I have it.... I freaking LOVE the PM2! Like I said it was my first Paramilitary, and now I know what all the hype is about with this knife. So now I have this urge to carry it. But it's a rare sprint. I always have this little voice in my head yell at me before I try to use the knife for anything. So now I want to buy another production PM2 that I can use in my EDC rotation. I use my knives hard. So I'm reluctant to carry rarities. This also happened when I bought a BFC s30v Skyline. That was my first skyline, and I loved it so much that I had to buy a regular Skyline to actually use. Same with my Caly 3.5 Aogami Super Blue sprint. It was my first Caly and the voice in my head wouldn't let me use it and I went out and bought a VG10 version. This @#$% never ends!!! I'm so broke....:( (but I have a nice collection :D)

I use a few and collect a lot more. I just don't see buying so many knives to use myself. If that's all I bought them for I'd only have 10 at the most. No way I need as many knives as I have to cut stuff with.

To make you feel better, the blue PM2 isn't a Sprint and its not that rare. It is a dealer exclusive and the dealer is already on their second run, and they can buy another run at any time. A true Spyderco Sprint is limited to a certain number of knives, which a dealer exclusive isn't.

What is the point of having a super steel if you aren't going to use to see what makes it super? EDC it and carry it IMO. Why carry a plain Jane version when you can carry something that will hold an edge a lot longer, and in my experience with the right tools, get a lot sharper too. I guess I'm a steel snob now, which might be why I'm more likely to carry a Sprint/ LE than the regular counterpart.

You are never going to become a wealthy person because you didn't carry a particular knife. I have some of the most sought after Sprint runs around NIB, and I would be lucky to break even if I sold every knife I own.

People buy knives for different reasons, I buy them to use them. The whole point of super steels is to notice a difference, "wow amazing edge retention on hilroy paper!, Wow really grippy and durable handle material, thatll keep it on the shelf better!" I dont want to put down anyone who likes collecting, collecting is its own pastime just like my favorite pastime of being in the wilderness and for me that requires a good knife. Whats a good knife ? Well Ill buy a bunch that I want and test them out to see what works for me, if you are collecting though you should really make it worth it. Buy a lot of rare knives and keep them mint in the box and pass them on to different generations, in 100 years a dealer exclusive pm2 might actually be worth something but Ill be dead by then so lets go chop some wood ! :D

In a hundred years, no one will give a crap. I say carry your knife in your favorite pocket and have a beater in the other. It's what I do. I have a bunch of nice folders just like the rest of you and I just cant bring myself to beat on a great knife. I usually have a Vic Compact or Soldier in the other pocket.
