Does this knife exist? Just under 3" Slip joint folder?

Plain edge in a good steel 8a minimum.

It must be a non-locking knife from a good company with no blade play. The edge must not be any more than 3".

I want a couple for carry in the UK, when my *ahem* locking knives are going to get me in trouble.

I don't want a blade in 420J2 though. Or anything by Fox or Whitby crap knives.

Cheers!

General Sir,
Check out theShatt & Morgan knives offered over at A.G.Russell.
I've got my eye on a couple of them myself.

Hopefully ATS-34 is good enough for 'ya.

Sure is!

BTW the blade needs a one handed opening device, I forgot to mention that

I am looking for a knife like a Delica but with a slip joint. NOT a penknife. Thanks!

An interesting site: http://www.worldknives.com/

Another: http://ndsproducts.com/knifelinks.html

I suggest you try the top-end purveyors -- BladeArt, KnifeArt, Robertsons, and Arizona Knife Works (or something like that, operated by Jay Sadow) See if there is anything showing there that might help. It is my guess that if anyone in the States has gone looking for the same thing, that they might have asked those merchants.

You might be able to buy a knife that appeals to you, and have one of the customizers put a thumb stud on it. If that is possible for you, the catalogue sold by Discount Knives has similar/same Schatt & Morgan, and Robeson pocket knives with ATS-34.

Failing that, custom may be your only route.

One hand open on a slip joint is going to be hard to find. For one, there doesn't seem to be a market - your case the exception. For another, a slip joint would have to be pretty stiff by nature (to stay open), therefore hard to open one handed.

How about the Case Russlock ?

rumours of a spyderco slip joint with a 2" blade... now where the hell did I read that... I'll search and see what I can find...

General,

Slip joints seem to be gaining in poularity. And can be found at any almost any price level from very low $ to very high $ customs.

But, I can't think of one which has one handed opening. Nail nicks are the thing and consistent withe traditonal style.

One-hand opening is a challenge on a slip-joint knife since you need a real tight spring for safety. If you hunt up pictures of the latest Marble Arms folding knives you'll find one called something like an English Jack Knife. What this has special is a large handle cutout around 1 inch away from where the tip resides with the blade folded in. This cutout lets you get an unusually secure thumb and index finger pinch grip on the blade. If you keep a clean blade with a little sticky beeswax or rosin on the part of the blade in the cutout you can probably do a snappy handle drop to one-hand open the blade.

Thanks for the help, it is very much appeciated!

All the best,

General,
I know you are a steel snob and specified non locking, but I found this little guy on the web. I really like the looks of it. The steel is 6A. The blades do lock, but I am sure this would be better received by the LEO than say, a pocket hobbit. Yes? There is also a large size available with a spey and clip point blade.

The first knife was probably used to cut stuff.

FWIW....

Just got the Knives Plus (800-687-6202) catalog, and they carry a nice lineup of Queen Cutlery traditional patterns, in several scale materials, in ATS-34. They are not one-handers, but they are traditional, quality patterns in ATS-34.

Additionally, on another page they have some new items from Kershaw. Traditional two-blade patterns, AUS6A, low profile thumb studs, liner locks.
