I was browsing the "New Arrivals" section on Blade HQ today, and this knife by Daggerr Knives was in there. Something about the button placement, the location of the choils, shape of the pivot end of the handle, and squared off flipper tab seemed familiar.

I was on my way to post it in the Tacticlol thread because of the gigantic skull pocket clip, when I realized my last post in that thread was of another knife from the same company. That one had a hole in the blade that was cut to look like a skull, but it suspiciously looks like a Spyderhole to me.

And then I thought: hey, this new knife with a "push button liner lock" looks a heck of a lot like this knife:

Now I couldn't find anything else about this "new" lock, because everything was in Russian. But those two knives look really similar to me.

So does Daggerr just really like the aesthetics of some Spyderco knives, to the point of incorporating them into their own designs, or am I just reading too much into a few design choices?

I think you would need to examine both internal mechanisms before crying foul.

It may not so much be inspired by a Spyderco but by a Kevin Smock custom, but I’m not familiar enough with his designs to know if this is too close for comfort.

My initial feeling is that it’s probably OK.

i guess if you look at it cock-eyed long enough there may be *some* rough similarities, but in my opinion, far from a design theft

Looks different to me. You can always find similarities if you go looking for them.

The look very different to me, the button being the only similarity. Radically different blade shape, different handle shape, pocket clip style and placement, one has a skull crusher, drilled out scales on one (liners as well?), just from a casual examination on a computer screen.

I admit that these days it is hard for me see some of the "stolen designs" or "copyright violations". Please... it was just a comment. No lectures needed or wanted on the difference between "clones", "homages", "a nod to", "theft" etc.

Popular designs these days seem to have many, many knives that look similar to, but not exactly same as others. In this particular case, they look pretty different to me.

The Smock is not the only knife with that style flipper tab. Maserin uses it on their AM series. Definitely not a "theft" IMO. Many knives have button locks.

It's definitely not an attractive knife and the blade is a strange shape, makes me think of some kind of gardening tool.
