i was just thinking about what i use a knife for, and came up with what is essentially my perfect pattern.

it would be a pretty large knife, about 4 inches closed. main clip or modified wharncliff main blade, with two springs on it.

two second blades, on the opposite end of the main blade. a coping/small sheepsfoot and a pen blade, one spring each.

i have seen knives, on this board i am sure, of larger knives with two springs on the main blade. it seems like a really good idea, though difficult to execute.

so is there such a knife in production, or would i have to talk to a custom maker about a knife like this?

So, a 4" (giant!!) wharncliffe whittler? I'll bet you can find someone to make you one of those... ;)

Sounds like a regular Case Seahorse Whittler or Bulldog Thor Whittler, except those are regular wharncliffe and not modified.

the thing i was most worried about was getting the main blade to be supported by both springs, a heavier main blade for general cutting and larger stock removal in whittling. then two smaller blades for fine tasks.

does the seahorse whittler have the main blade on two springs?

Schatt and Morgan 2006 Dogleg whittler comes pretty close with the two smaller blades being a clip and a pen.
Not too good of a picture but you get the idea. Two small blades on their own spring with the main blade sharing the two springs.
You might also check out some of the old Schrade whittlers, they will be close to what you are looking for.

Yes, both of those I mentioned have the main blade on two springs and the small blade on one spring each.

I believe most "whittlers" are set up this way. I have a bunch, mostly in the 3 1/2" size but those mentioned are both 4" (+ or - 1/8")

FYI, the Case seahorse whittlers are stainless steel. You can get the Bulldogs in either stainless or carbon.

Kissing Crane also has a carbon stag whittler that is 4 1/2". It has a spear main blade, however.
