Traded for this today because I love the Congress pattern and loved the looks of the handles.
Could this be stag or some form of winterbottom? Anyone have any guesses on age? Thanks

It looks like primitive bone to me. What's the other side look like?

It appears to be well worn Winterbottom to me. She's seen a lot of pocket time!
You can compare your knife's tang stamp to this chart and draw a conclusion !!

Hope this helps,

Well ... I´m not an expert as well.

But it doesn´t look like stag to me. I miss some of its glare. Maybe a pic from another angle could be better in showing this off.
Looks like well worn and loved bone to me. Whoever might have had this in his/hers pockets must have carried it for a long time and give it some decent sharping.

look at it under magnification. If you can see pores it is bone, if not it's stag. Looks like stag to me.

I agree with Dave. Very worn Winterbottom bone.

Probably right. The older gent I got it from called it "Winterbottom Stag" I knew what Winterbottom was and I know what Stag is so I assumed it had to be one or the other! Either way it has perfect walk and talk to it and half-stop :) I'm really liking it.

first guess is stag, well worn for sure, but most likely Winterbottom bone from what you have deduced.

all good. great looking half-congress.
thanks fo posting

Second picture looks conclusively like bone to my eye, it has pores. It might actually have had a ride on the buffer as it's hard to imagine WB which is deeply grooved, wearing away that absolutely without a little 'help' Nevertheless, it's a very attractive aged looking knife and very pleasing to look at, congratulations.
