Does this red bone look right?

I just got this 372 Muskrat in red bone but the scale doesn't look right to me. I understand that there will be imperfections in natural materials but I expected to see nice jigging not a gouged out area.

On a more positive note, the scale on the other side is beautiful. I am very pleased with the non-shield scale.

Look at this ad photo. This is what I was expecting for the shield side.

It's cosmetic and It'll probably get banged up from pocket carry anyway but I prefer to add my own battle scars. I am pretty new to bone scales. I have always prefered synthetic and wood. Admitedly I don't have a lot of exposure to bone scales and want to know if this is normal.

Am I asking too much for a $20 knife? Is this justification for sending it back to Buck?

Ain't right....callem......you will get a swap, not a repair. Just my guess...

Looks like it melted, but the shield would be straight edged. Shield is buffed round edged. Slipped past quality control.....

My quarter bet is on you getting happy in the end....300$s

I'd send it back--they'll want you happy. That's not a natural flaw, it's a nasty scar. My opinion, any way.

Last time I asked the question in the thread topic, I got slapped.

FWIW, I'd send it back...

which way do i go and who do i bite:D?

Your right that there will be a certain amount of variance due to the material being a natural product and all but that one does look excessive. We will either be able to clean it up or end up replaceing the knife altogether.
I will check the computer to see if it has arrived and contact you via email with the status.
:)

Thanks Joe. According to my USPS Delivery Confirmation, my package arrived in Post Falls at 7:22 am January 8, 2008.

What should I carry in the meantime???

Well that "Joe" guy was just reading this thread. :D
I just got to the point where I remembered it, (its early moday morning and i am still on the first cup of coffee), and I was thinking, "oh yeah, I better see if I can find this guys knife". Then I see that he already got one back and is happy.
Wish I could take credit for this one!
