Does Spyderco make an American made knife with carbon steel? Something that will take a patina?

Trey

Not in regular production. Anything that will take a patina will rust if not cared for properly, and people don't like rust. They also don't seem to like having to care for their knives.

You can try to track down an M4 Manix 2. I believe they're still available new from the original dealer.

Spyderco did offer a single-piece fixed blade in 52100 as a sort of special project, but I believe it has been discontinued. It was a leaf-shaped blade with a series of holes for attaching a custom handle or for cord wrapping. You might be able to find one somewhere around.

+1 on this.

Yep, you're thinking of the Mule Team in 52100.

There have been a few non-stainless Mules, Sprint Runs of several folders in M-4, and a recent Sprint of the Caly 3.5 in Super Blue.

EDITED TO ADD: There's also the Bushcraft fixed blade in O-1.

But the Caly is not US-made...which would not discourage me at all, but the OP wants on-shore production, apparently.

There's also the M4 Military. I just put together a hybrid today, and it's close to becoming my favorite folder.

Yeah, looking for made in America (personal choice). Those Military M4's are going for crazy money!

There's also the regular production Gayle Bradley in M-4. Probably the easiest non-stainless Spyderco folder to find and highly regarded by just about everyone who owns one.

Paul, both the Gayle Bradley and the BushcraftUK are produced in Taiwan. Even though the Taichung maker is putting out the highest quality knives, using American steel, the O.P. wants U.S. made and carbon steel, which means either the MT01P or one of the CPM M4 Military or Manix sprints.

good luck for the M4 milie (wich is awesome) and 52100 mule.

the M4 manix will be easier and cheaper to get.

Yep, you're right. His loss.

...and O1 steel starts to rust if you so much as look at it sideways... I never understood the allure, to be honest...

That's what you get for living where it rains. None of mine have rusted thanks to my strenuous care regimen consisting of wiping the blade on my pantleg afer I use it.

Don't forget the Military and Para in CPM D-2. It's not a carbon steel but it will take a patina.
(I guess that was three or four years ago now, some can still be found though.)
