Does this thing have potential?

Hey guys a few years ago I picked this up at a flea market for $5.00 I figured even if it's trash it's only 5 dollars right? I'm just curious if this thing has potential as a user? I figure I'll grind down the broken part being careful to keep it cool and sharpen her up.
I'd love to change out the scales but I don't have the tools.

Yes, I think it has potential if you can keep the heat down low enough when you grind it. The DE Fi seems to have a decent reputation. You might find this interesting http://straightrazorplace.com/razors/50066-wester-bros-de-fi-age.html especially reply #6. Good luck with the project.

It is salvageable. Just don't overheat and lose the temper when you grind the tip to make it shorter. Other than that it looks like it doesn't have much hone wear and should hone up fine. I've honed a number of De-fi's and they take a nice edge. I wouldn't worry about swapping the scales out though - I'd save that for a bigger or nicer razor.
