Is their such a knife that legally can be taken on a plane, granted even if their is one I still would not, but was wondering.

Second question, if a knife was totally made of carbon fiber even the blade, could it be taken on a plane, as in would it pass through everything fine.

Also, if their was a balisong with a 2in blade, but once again it was entirely made of carbon fiber blade and all, could it be taken on a plane.

I had just thought of this.

If fingernail clippers can't, I'm pretty sure the TSA would say NO to all others.

This guy is asking about knives he can sneak past security.

Just asking these questions here is enough to suspect foul play,or at least bad intentions.

He is looking to break laws designed to protect us from people like that.

Can you say terrorist?

These questions have no place on our forum.

Why does one need such a tool on a plane? But the answer to your question would be straight up no.

I don't think this was his intentions at all.

I know that Leatherman makes a TSA approved multi tool for air planes (no knife). But on the note of sneaking items into planes, yes it can be done. Not sure how the carbon fiber would work out but there have been cases of people making knives out of plastic to try and overtake planes.

Great. Lets give this guy some ideas!

I think you make them out of G-10 or other hard plastics... fehrman makes a little one for like 10 dollars though im not sure how big it is

My wife accidentally took a stun gun on a plane once. Security at SeaTac is pretty bad I guess.

The answer to your questions is still no.

Legally you can not take any knife on a plane unless you have special clearance (Air Marshall, etc)

As for a carbon fiber blade...modern scanners are not "metal detectors" they scan for density. So a knife made from carbon fiber, G10, etc would show up on the scanners and if the TSA agent is doing their job you would more than likely end up in big time trouble.

(edit: To clarify I was referring to "carry on" baggage. Legally you can even take a sword on a plane in your "checked" baggage)

Holy, slow your role bunch of paranoid people. I saw a few replies I though they where going to be helpful, I think only 2 where on track. I have always wondered this, and their is know need to bring a knife of any sort on a plane, but I was wondering if people knew of exceptions. Many of the responses on this thread are really sad. Even if their was exceptions as I stated I still would not bring any of the "in question" stuff any where near a airport much less a plane. Also, the point is not sneaking it on the plane, it is legally getting it on the plane.

Keep your day job, as your reading into this thread showed no psychological merit at all.

Isn't that exactly what a terrorist would claim while pumping knife enthusiast for information?

What is your intention in getting a knife on board a plane?

Say what you like, but your questions raise a bunch of Red Flags for me.

Perhaps slightly different wording would have gotten more positive results. You original post came off as "if I had a knife from carbon fiber could I sneak it past security?". If you had posted "I am wondering what the legality of carrying a non metallic knife on a plane is? Is it legal, I do not want to break any laws".

Unfortunately we live in a paranoid age and posts about how to bypass security reflect badly on the community. All it takes is a bored reporter to stumble across this in a Google search then go on a crusade against the knife community "large knife forum populated by knife-crazy people, often carrying half a dozen blades upon their person is offering advice on how to bypass airport security to take blades on board" etc.

I assumed your intent was not negative but it could be easily twisted into something the anti-knife folks could jump on.

I miss the days when stuff like this was not an issue, but those days are past. Years from now I don't want to be missing the days when knife carry in general was legal because some anti-knife fools got their way and its now illegal.

Thank you big mike for protecting us all from carbon fiber balisong terrorists. I sleep safer at night knowing you are lurking blade forums.

Well stated ecos.

I could imagine some Homeland Security analyst studying this thread and the OP in the morning.

Reflects bad on all of us.

I'm surprised the mods have not removed this thread.

What? I guess you missed that 911 thing.

I take securing America seriously.

I guess you don't.

You realize the only reason their is a negative connotation now, is because you made one.

I dont think any of you read the first line of my thread starting post, I used to word, legally.

Also mike you realize your logic is totally warped, as because if I used your logic, every single thread post, on the "knife laws" section is odveously using the information with mal intent. I dont really see your point as when it is thought out, it is not very logical.

Also you all missed the part about, I am not trying to bypass any security at all, I was asking if their is a legal way. This is how news gets misconceived, the reporter leaves off a vital word or sentence.
