Does White Lightning evaporate in the bottle?

I have an old bottle of White Lightning that has been sitting in a drawer for many months. Recently I went to move it and noticed that there seemed to be less liquid inside than I remembered. (It had settled out, too, but that was easily cured by shaking the bottle.)

I unscrewed the cap and the bottle hissed as if releasing pent-up vapor. Is this common? Should I consider White Lightning a "use it or lose it" liquid?

Just curious.

Didn't you ever hear the expression, "like trying to keep white lightning in a bottle"? :D

The only thing I can think of is evaporation because the bottle isn't sealed properly.

Yes, it has a rather limited shelf life-about 6 months. White Lightning has been sold to Buck and Buck hasn't released anything yet in the line. I recommend you use Sentry Solutions Tuf-Glide. It's an excellent product and doesn't evaporate. Any good gun oil would be another choice.

I am an avid road and Mt biker. I've been using White Lightning chain lube for years. First... is the White Lightning for knives the same as the stuff for bikes? Judging from the looks of both bottles it seems like they are made by the same manufacturer, but I am not sure.

If it is the same stuff. I have not noticed much evaporation over time with the bike lube. And have used same bottles for longer than 6months without any problem.

Then again a bike chain is not as delicate as moving parts in a knife... so even if the lube went semi-bad it would not bother the bike chain or bike parts much.

Same question here...is this the same waxy dry lube stuff? It would seem odd that Buck would buy White Lightning.

I'm just guessing, but I'd bet that White Lightning sells a whole lot more chain lube than they do knife pivot lube.
