Does your Haddock blade finish look like this?

I bought a haddock a few months back. I had some problems with it and end up having to return it to Boker. They sent me a brand new one last week.

I'd like to start by saying I have only great things to say about the customer service over at Boker. I dealt with Terry from start to finish, and he was polite, very honest and helpful. The new knife did take a very long time to arrive, but it came from Germany. Overall A+ customer service over there.

However, i am having a problem with the new knife i received. There is some discoloration or some type of very noticeable markings on the blade finish. My previous problem involved 2 months of countless emails back and forth with Terry. I don't want to be a pain in the ass, but I'm just not happy with this knife and really find it kind of unacceptable.

I sent Terry another quick email with a pic and asked him about it. He said "it is due to the N690BO steel. It seems to take finishes somewhat unevenly".

Even with the explanation, i still feel very unsatisfied. I've also been considering selling this knife because money's tight. I don't feel right selling a brand new knife, for the amount of money i want, with these markings.

My question: Does anyone else have markings on their blades? Is this really that common with the Haddocks?

I'd like to get a general consensus here before making a stink over at Boker. I sincerely feel bad to potentially go on another 2 months back and forth with Terry. Below is a pic. I would love to hear what you all think. If you have similar markings, please say so and if you have pics, even better! Advice is also warmly accepted.

Thank yoU!

Hey Chad,
Like I said in the email, I understand your frustration, but I have this issue on my PryMate, MiniPry, and went home and found it on my Titan Defender, all of which are made of N690BO. As always, I can order a new one for you if you wish, that is not a problem at all. Please just let me know.

There is some discoloration or some type of very noticeable markings on the blade finish . . .

This is the first I've heard that N690 (AKA N690Co AKA N690BO) takes an uneven finish. Your blade appears to be stonewashed. Perhaps that's why it's discoloring. To the best of my knowledge, the only source for N690 is Böhler. You might contact them and find out if they're aware of a finishing problem with their alloy. (For what it's worth, I have a satin-finished Benchmade Rant in N690 and the blade is finished evenly throughout.)

I hope you're able to get this sorted out, chaddridv.

My Haddock looks all over like the left end of yours - just stone washed (mottled) - no discoloration. I've chopped veggies, fruit, paper, etc - washed it in just water. My greatest aggravation when mine was new was the wire edge, which was stropped away on my jeans' pants leg. The edge was made razor sharp in short order with the Spyderco Sharpmaker's white ceramic files. My Pry-Mate is better looking - it's a 'bright' finish and what I thought were discoloration marks faded completely away with a tiny dab of Semichrome metal polish on a cotton swipe - and a buffing with a paper towel. That might also help the discoloration on the OP's Haddock - be careful around the 'labels', lest they be erased!

Email sent. Thanks Terry.

Just to echo the responses you've already received...there's something definitely wrong with that blade. I hope you can get it worked out...the knife is great.

Thanks for the affirmation. I have already sent it back into boker. I have a bit of a wait, but i am confident they will make things right.
