Does your Ritter mini grip have blade play and not center?

Just got one. Slight side to side blade play and favors one side when shut.

Is this common with this knife?

Debating whether or not to return it.

Sorry if this has been covered before, I'm relatively new to Benchmade.

Thanks

No, mine is dead center and has no blade play. Perhaps you can send yours back?

I'm with T.K.C. My Ritter mini has spot on centering. It does have the slightest side to side play when locked out, but it's not bad or anything. I bet if I tightened up the pivot it'd be squared away.

More times than not you can adjust blade centering and bladeplay. Bladeplay is just a matter of tightening the pivot; it takes minute adjustments to find balance between action and bladeplay. Polishing the washers and oiling will improve the action and allow for increased pivot tension to reduce blade play.
Adjusting blade center is more complex. You have to remove the clip and loosen all the screws. Do not remove them. Then you apply tension to the upper side of one scale and the lower side of the other. This will force the blade over to one side. If the blade moves in a worsening direction, you reverse where you apply pressure (lower side / upper side vs. upper side/ lower side).
Once the blade favors the opposite side it originally was toward, begin tightening all the screws to just snug and save the pivot for last. Go back and tighten each screw fully, then adjust pivot.

Pay attention to blade centering while tightening the screws. You may notice once screw causes the blade to move off center as you tighten it. This is the problem screw. Tighten it last and maybe not as tight as the rest.

Keyman has a much better description for this process some where.

Thanks Elite_KG

I think this is the description you are speaking of:

With the knife closed.
loosen all the screws including the clip screws
Now snug down on the pivot.
Not real tight, just hand tight.
I then gently, but firmly, apply pressure to each side of the knife in opposite directions.
Left side up/right side down or Left side down/right side up; while at the same time seeing what combination gives you the desired results.
While holding the right effect, start tightening screws.
If the tightening of one particular screw ruins the effect.
Tighten this problem screw last.
Once all the screws are tight, adjust pivot.

Yes, that's it. I have used it many times.

Not sure if sending the knife back will result in your satisfaction. Bladeplay is somewhat subjective a and Benchmade technicians may or may not center perfectly.

I have had to play with the pivot tension a little to get all blade play removed but never had a centering issue with ANY grip.

Our assembly technicians are trained to ensure the blade tip is centered in the middle third of the gap between the liners. This compensates for manufacturing tolerances. How off center is the blade? Also, yes the blade play is subjective but there shouldn't be any.

Hi, it touches the side of the handle/liner on the left side when it shuts. Beautiful knife otherwise.

I just got a mini Ritter and installed Wilkins titanium scales on it. Blade centering is perfect. There is a some side-to-side play with the action set where I like it but it's acceptable. This was the same both stock and with the Wilkins scales. I LOVE it with the titanium. Awesome little knife.
