Does your Skyline flip as well as when it was new?

After ordering a new Skyline from Kershaw Guy, I got out some of my old ones to play with. I hadn't used them in a while.

Most of them now flip like Hinderers.

That's not a compliment. They're slow, far slower than I remember. And need a good wrist flick to open fully.

The exception is my two BF Skylines with the S30V blades and blue scales, a special run by Kershaw.

They're just as snappy as when I first got them.

This is puzzling.

Disassemble, clean, lube. My skyline flips better than when I got it. The internals smoothed out nicely.

The BF S30v blade is highflat ground instead of hollow ground which makes it just a tad heavier. Which makes it just a bit easier to flip in my estimation.

I have a frankenskyline with the BF blue handles and a Damascus blade and it flips pretty smooth too, no wrist flick.

Chrisk91 makes a good point. For all you know, being kept in storage has caused some gunk to build up.

Take 'em apart, clean real good and add a little lube.

I too have noticed that newer skylines don't flip like they used to. I haven't gone so far as to clean and relube since they belong to friends, but all of the recent production fresh out of the box skylines seem considerably harder to flip than the older versions.

All the Skylines I have were a bit stiff when fresh out of the box. As they wore in (over a week or so), they became much smoother. If they've been in storage for a while, my guess is whatever gunk had accumulated in the pivot area has been drying up and solidifying. I would expect it to smooth out again if you bring it back out of retirement.

Don't notice difference one way or the other in mine, but only have one

I haven't noticed a change over time, but I always felt like smaller/lighter blades were harder or slower flipping than larger ones. Both my Skyline and smaller Ripple seem to need more wrist action than my larger Ripple, which is still a bit harder than larger knives like various ones by ZT.

New Skyline arrived -- blackwash from KershawGuy.

Out-of-the-box, the flipper is nice and snappy -- just like the others used to be.
