Does your Strider SNG, SMF, etc pivot bolt SPIN freely

I just got a new SNG a week ago and I've notices the pivot pin now can be spun after breaking it in (opening and closing a hundred times). there isn't a tremendous amount of blade play and very little side-to-side action, but when pinching the pivot bolt front and back, I can easily turn it 360 degrees.

The engagement seems solid opened and closed, but is this going to get worse after a year or two? I've had pivots spin before when using a torx to tighten, but never with my fingers alone. There seems to be just a little slop in the pivot area that I would not expect out of a knife in that price range.

Does anyone else have this? I saw one post about someone getting this on a CC version and thought it a fluke.

feedback appreciated.

The spinning is not unusual for the bull pivot. It's just the way that the pivot is designed. On a normal pivot, there is a maybe a hex shaped cutout in the frame for the pivot bolt to seat into. On the bull pivot, the cutout is circular on on both sides, so there is nothing to keep the pivot from spinning.

Normal and doesn't affect the lockup at all. Buzz nailed it. It's round and doesn't have any kind of indexing spot, so it'll spin freely.

I have a couple of knives designed like that, TOPS Thunder Hawke and my Tempest and Hornet. What I ended up doing is super gluing the female end into the frame. Just a single drop of liquid to secure it. I perform maintenance on my knives and it is way to frustrating to try and adjust the pivot screw otherwise when taking them apart. keepem sharp

PS what I look for actually is how well the blade travels around the pivot itself. In other words how tight it is going around. To test this I open the knife blade a bit and then go back and forth a bit slowly. If it is made correctly you won't feel any slop between the blade rocking back and forth and the pivot. If it is not made so correctly you will feel a bit of looseness of the blade on the pivot itself. My Lahar doesn't exhibit any of this nor do my MT's. Nor does my Thunder Hawke. Probably a few others too but for the most part the knives mentioned don't. keepem sharp

The only fear I had was if the spinning will wear into the g-10. I know it would take some time but my SMF tanto (#O91) was my goto knife. I sent it to the spa and when it came back it didn't spin any more!

When the knife is new the pivot does not rotate much, but after the knife has some miles on it the pivot will rotate. At some point the pivot can be adjusted to remove the play, but that is after much use...

I just had a look at my SnG. I cannot rotate the pivot at all with my fingers. As far as I can recall I've never noticed that I could. Mine has been in regular weekend use for several years and nothing much has changed.

I'm assuming that some examples of the knife act slightly differently to others. Unless it's affecting blade play or suchlike, I'm not sure I'd worry too much about it.

One thing that has been constant on mine since day one is a very slight up and down blade play. It's VERY small and doesn't affect the knife use in any way. However, if I gently hold the lock bar in with my thumb the play disappears. It's always been like this, never got worse or better. Doesn't concern me at all but I'm wondering if anyone else has this feature.

Next time you have her apart, bend the lockbar over more. That should do it.
