Just got back from buying the Mrs. a carton of smokes, man I could buy a Delica a week for what she spends on these things ! Or a handfull of custom folders a year. I thing I'm on to something here, what do you think ?

Might help in justifying knife purchases, but be careful, because then if she quits -- she might expect you to quit buying knives!

I hear ya! My wife doesn't smoke, never has, never even tried it. As a matter of fact, she wouldn't marry me until I quite smoking my 3 packs a day! Started smoking at age 12, quite at age 20. It's been almost 23 years now since I puffed on a smoke. I sure wouldn't be able to buy knives like I do if I did smoke at the prices of cigs at 3 packs a day!

My wife and I smoked for 10 years, and decided to quit before we began trying to bear offspring. With the money we save, we are funding an IRA for ourselves, a college fund for our new son, my monthly health club dues, and my knife habit.

If you want your wife to quit, get her looking at it from the health point of view, then the financial. Then if she does quit, split the financial.

Your share will still be good for a couple Spydies a month.

No doubt about it. Every time my wife buys a carton of cigarettes, I find my self making that same Delica comparison.

Lone Hunter,

My wife smokes and I don't, so I get to pick up a new knife, lately, once a month

(So far this year; Jan - HALO III, Feb - small decorated sebenza, Mar - synergy, Apr - commander) Works for me & she doesn't complain

When I used cigarettes at 3 packs a day I couldn't afford to support my knife habit - so I switched to a pipe - ONE small pouch of $2.00 tobacco in four days - I use the savings to take my non-smoking wife out to dinner.. and buy a knife once and a while.

maybe i'm in a unique position. my wife smokes, but she is also a certified executive chef who has a bigger knife budget than mine.if i want to spend $100 on a new folder, i just remind her about the new henckels she just bought.

Excuse me, but how much does a carton of cigarettes cost there in the US? I'm assuming that one carton = 10 packs right?

I don't have a wife, but I smoke a pack a day, sometimes two, if I'm tense. hehe..

I would imagine our Czech members find this to be quite a provacative question! Let's just say it doesn't quite translate.

Okay, here's your choices:

1.) Smokes
2.) Knives
3.) Spouse

Which would you choose if you could only have one of the three?

Danny -- about $40

Mark -- spouse, of course (never know when she might peruse this forum), which should not be exclusive of choice number 4.

Does my wife smoke?

Only when she finds out how much a new knife purchase cost. Then she sets off smoke alarms for blocks around as she blows her top. Not to mention seismic monitors from jumping up and down kind of hopping mad!

Oh! Cigarettes! No, she doesn't smoke. THANK GOD!
