Doesn't having a Seb and Mnandi cover it all?

Got my Mnandi and it has me thinking. Doesn't a combination of having a Sebenza and Mnandi pretty much cover all the knife most people really need? I mean, you have your work knife and you have your Very Nice knife for dressy occasions.

Most people are definitely covered. Just in case, though, it's probably a good idea to have one of the one-piece knives for really heavy-duty chores!! :D

No, there are lots of occasions on the farm, and when I go bush walking, when a larger fixed blade is very useful.

A Shadow, or a Project I, can be used to do camp/trail/farm duties that a folder just couldn't handle: quartering game, splitting wood, and building shelter.

Also, since when has it been about what knife we need? What knife we can have and use is much more fun—and explains why I am waiting on a Warrior.

Yeah, that's one of my favorite combos. For most situations, a large Sebbie and a Mnandi do indeed cover most of your knife needs. Not all, mind you, and it's a good thing, too, because that would take a lot of the fun out of collecting.

It's kind of funny... I have the same way of thinking as far as folders are concerned. Large Seb, small Seb, Mnandi, what more could one ask for? Then one day at work one of the guys was cleaning the main "Command Pulpit"(don't ask), and there was some type of gum/gunk stuck to the floor. He grabbed his Gerber Gator lock back folder, flipped it open and started scraping the stuff off the floor. There I stood with my large Sebenza("all the knife I would ever need") in my pocket, thinking..."Yeah, right!" :D

I don't think it's the cost so much as just wanting to keep it mint. Or maybe the gut feeling that if something did happen to it I have to get another or send it in for refurbishment. Which, by the way, is already happening(the getting more Sebs than one needs part). The CR factory called to say that my small Classic with Box Elder wood and spiralgraph stainless Damascus blade will be ready in a couple weeks, many months ahead of schedule...

Boy these guys are good! Gotta love it!

As I always say, it's a question of using the right tool for the job. In this case, the right tool was the other guy's knife. So I'd say that you did the right thing. ;)

I would agree that for most of us the above combo would work for edc, and you would be set. I would also agree that if you add a fixed blade to the equation, then you really have everything covered. Go forth each day with the folders and hold the fixed blade in reserve. That is my goal any way.

I pretty much agree with your hypothesis. I just hope my Wife doesn't arrive at the same conclusion. :D ;)

I carry a SAK Tinker for that kind of stuff. Plus the SAK is handy for other tasks for obvious reasons. So I guess I'd have to include a SAK to cover my needs.

Oh, well. I tried. ;)
