so my girlfriend bought me a 5 1/2 inch Kabar USMC knife. I left it on the kitchen table and my dog ATE THE LEATHER HANDLE! First off i feel horrible because i was so happy my girl got me the knife and she was happy to buy it for me, then stupid me had to leave it on the table and the damn dog decided it would make a good chew toy. The dog ate both the handle of the knife and the sheath. So i was wondering if any one knew of a decent material to wrap the handle in to make it look better then it does now. I wanted to get a kydex sheath anyways so i'm not worried about the sheath but the handle is making me wonder what i can do to make it better again.

Well. let me tell you a little story.. i was snorkling as i often do in the summer, and i find stuff, good stuff sometimes, but one day i found a knife. turns out its a 300$ handmade blade from Randall made, what a great surprise, however it was underwater for a while so the blade was all rust etched in a weird pattern and the leather handle smelled like the bad part of a bog crossbred with a wet dog. So, i took a piece of cherry and one of pine, cut them to fit eachother , chiseled a channel for the tang and made...

This:http://trigcure.deviantart.com/art/Randall-Handall-119204691 sorry for the bad photo, my webcam is cheap and my camera is worse.. but maybe for your poor KABAR you can do something like this if you like wood, or you might be able to make a new stacked leather washer handle if you have the leather, or theres this tape that only sticks to itself, one brand is Camoform i think and that would cover it up pretty good.

love that handle trigcure but i'm not the most handy person in the world. I will check into the camoform thanks for the reply

That's why I'm glad I have cats. :D

A shame you aren't a handy type. I'd see it as a perfect excuse to give modification a go. If I remember correctly there was a fellow who rehandled a kabar last year with some beautiful brown canvas micarta. Looked better than the original.

nomadnh, its not hard to rehandle a leather handle knife. i have repaired quite a few over the years and i repaired one for a member on the forum. here is a leather washer handle knife i made back in 07 http://mysite.verizon.net/ress6fq6/id31.html i would be glad to talk you through the process if you want to try yourself.

Nomad, I'd take Richard up on his offer. I've seen his work. Cant go wrong with him walking you through it.
