Is the new Dog Father just an updated design of the Battle Rat or is there more than just subtle differences? Reason I ask is it looks very similar to my Battle Rat. The price also, I believe, is the same as the old Battle Rat. I would like to know if my Battle Rat is up to the same standards as the Dog Father. Thanks.

Battle Rat was $148.95, made from SR-101 steel that was differentially tempered.
How the DF is heat treated, I don't know. It's made from SR-77 steel.
Looks like a good deal tho, especially looking at those pictures !
But me, I have a Rat Mastiff, a FBM, a Heavy Heart (with snakeskin!) a Muddy Ratweiler and a tan/tan Camp Tramp..........I think I can let this one go..........(famous last words, I know...)

I don't yet have a Dog Father, but my understanding is that it is bigger (longer and wider) than the Battle Rat, as well as being 5/16th inch thick, instead of 1/4 inch thick. Also, I think it is made out of a tougher (i.e., less brittle) steel. I'm not yet sure what the other differences are. And the Dog Father is through hardened, whereas the Battle Rat was differentially tempered.

My battlerat is among my fav. blades... the combo of resC and size ext. its a smoking blade and way underpriced imo for what it is..
The dogfather is less beautiful imo, but larger in a few ways, and looks very promising... i have a few on the way and hope to love the DF just like i do my Battle Rat

Thanks for that information. I too have been spending too much on knives as of late...but I keep hearing these little vices (I mean voices) in my head saying "You can't have too many knives!"
