I saw some dog tags for sale on one of the online auction sites.

From the pictures, these do not look like my verified dogtags.

Caveat emptor.

Those look like the older style ones that used to come from Busse IIRC.

Here's a poor pic of some of mine.

Verify with Jerry, a lot more tags have been made, than ever made by or sent with Busse knives:(
Older Busse Dogtags are very different than most of the reproductions.
It's all about spacing, which side printed from, and from which end the printing starts.

I have deleted the picture.
I was reluctant to put it up in the first place.
Having a picture readily available makes it to easy for people to counterfeit, but somtimes I feel the need to show and tell.

One of mine.
1995-1996

Thanks for the close up Andre!

It looks like some of Erics are embossed and rolled opposite of yours. Any idea which style are older?

Maybe mine are fakes, it never occured to me that someone would make fake DT's.

Learn something new all the time ;):D:D

(edited to add "Holy Crap I just went over 3000 posts...again ;))

Damn it.....Damn!

Eric, I've been counting your post so I could say...
"Holy crap Eric, you just went over 3000 post again!".;) :p

BTW...they look fake to me

Progunner,

Looks like you're gonna get them for a buck. I retracted my bid.:(

Raden,

I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. I asked the guy where he got them and was told that he got them along with a knife in trade a while back. If they are fake, he probably doesn't even know it. Someone (like Andre) who has a good selection of the dogtags in existence needs to make up some sort of guide or provide samples, on temporary basis of course, to one of us to make a guide for the serious collector.

By the way, buying fake Busse dog tags is not nearly as bad as buying a fake badge. Especially if you find out after you have shelled out sveral hundren dollars for one. I have yet to do that, but have some badge collecting associates have and it isn't funny to them.

I guess I won't feel too bad, it looks like Eric might have a few fakes in that pile he has posted too. :D

Yeah, mine might be fake....:D:D

As long as the DT's are the only fake Busses I have I guess it isn't any big deal...I bought them because I liked them.

I do have a couple of different styles I'll have to take a closer look.

I know that the one new one is real though :D

Andre is right on. Those are fakes. There was some guy out of OK who was making them. We put a stop to it. . . as far as we know:rolleyes: . . ..

I've seen the real ones sell for $35.00 p $50.00.

Some say Steel Heart on them and others don't.

They were stamped out on a vintage WWII dog tag machine. One at a time.

Jerry

I've got the Steel Heart version. Might look good on a SH-I...:p

Goes well with my patch too.
