I'm looking for a new knife to piggyback on my Dogfathers sheath. I have narrowed my choices down to either the Sykco511 or the Rodent4. It would be fire starting and all around camp choirs. I am leaning towards the Rodent4 because it is the smaller of the two, but the Sykco handle matches the Dogfather perfectly. Which one would you choose?

PS I feel the Sykco311 is too small.

Rodent solution is great. My brother and i both have that setup and love it.

The Cultie would make a nice partner for the DogFather, and not add too much weight to the overall package.;)

Dumster mutt LE or Se ...either way the satin ones just released from KC are nice.

different KC. He's talking about the Knob Creek show. There's a culti in my top pic, far left with green giraffe bone. They were never a regular release but were made with quite a few different handle materials.

If you like the dumpster mutts, a DMDC will probably be the easiest to find. It is double cut/ bead blasted but could be polished to satin in no time if you wanted to. It is a great feeling knife.

I tried to looking for this knife on Knife Center but could not find it. What is the full Name of the satin one?

darkeather is correct...I was referring to this past Knob Creek show Busse did. Here is a shot of a lot of the culties first released at Blade 2008.

here is an original Dumster Mutt. If your DF is coated then this may be want you want. If its satin the newer version of DM from KC was satin. Either way, this is what it looks like so you can see why I mentioned. It has old school handles like the original basics too. Only warning is the DM is a thick blade. Its a great tough companion to the DF but its not a real slicer.

If you like the DF handle, then I'd go with the SY 511. Handle ergo's can make a *HUGE* difference in how a knife performs for a user. So if you've found a handle format you like, stick with it. I happen to like Res-C as my favorite Bussekin handles, so understand that I am biased in that direction and it does influence my recommendation.

QFT. Since your DF fills the chopper slot on the duty roster, getting a shorter-bladed slicer is IMHO the role to fill. And Bussekin, for all their strength and toughness, aren't real strong on thin stock slicers. (In my world, "thin stock" starts around 1/8" thick and gets skinnier from there. My best performing pure slicers are 1/16" thin and less.)

I would add the Anorexic model Busse Basic 4 LE to your potential DF piggy-back partner list. At 0.155" thick stock, it very closely approaches being thin enough to be a pure slicer. It's 0.03" (three playing cards) difference from my arbitrary self-imposed 0.125" threshold. However, don't forget the handle ergo's are different on the B4 War Dog handle than on the more standard SY 511 handle. Optimum situation would be to find a Hog/Rat/Dog near you that has several of the small knives you are considering and would allow you to fondle them to check out the handle fit to *YOUR* hand.

Or just buy several, pick your fave to piggyback with the DF, and sell the rest. Fodder for the Trough. ;) :D

Oh, and many thanks for the pics guys. Eye candy is always appreciated!!

Well I decided to order two knives. The Sykco 3-11 and the 5-11. I'll run them through there paces doing different bushcraft/camp choirs and decide which one I feel the best with. I will probably get the 4-11 when and if it becomes available and run it up against the victor of these two. Thanks guys for your advice. Now the wait begins, I read it could take as long as 4 to 6 weeks, Ugh!
