I have a line on a Dogfather but I already have a CG FBM (not to mention NMFBMs that are unused so far). Wondering about the relative merits from thos who have used both? I know the INFI is near-indesrtuctoble but I actually like the feel of the Resiprene C handles on the Dogfahter a bit more. Should I go for it, or will it be redundant?

I say go for it. I have 4 Battle Mistresses, my all time favorite knife, but I also like the Dogfather a lot. Its a great blade too.

Personally I have never tried the R-handles so I can't really speak for them but I have tried the CGFBM and the only chopper that I have seen that best it is my LE NMFBM. Which I don't think anything will out chop.....that hasn't been modded that is. Ban has some CG FBMs that he has modded that have chopping ability that is flat out amazing!

How about the SOD thats available from SYK right now. Smaller than both of those knives, yes, but at $120, a DEAL!

I have both NMFBM, FBM Satin ( like a LE but no LE No - One off from the Creek ), FFBM and DFLE and CG's and going from my experience the Res C grip will mean you use it.

Personally of the above I like the Flat Grinds the best...they are a bit lighter and balanced for me...but as an out and out chopper the Sabre Grinds have more blade weight...it depends on preference and intended use.

I have modded the grips on my FBM's to a smooth hand shape...and will take the NMFBM grips thinner on the swell's...the NMFBM is the best of the lot in standard spec from a sustained chopping point of view given the smooth grips but the swell is a bit high for me and I want to fit the grip to my hand. The Res C grips are pretty much perfect as is for me and give more of a cushioned benefit on sustained chopping.

For a sub zero weather knife it also has the benefit of no steel contact with your skin but like as not you would be wearing gloves outside.....however....if you come indoors it takes a while for the steel to warm and if you take your gloves off quickly and go to remove your FBM from the sheath you might get a bit of skin sticking to the spine. Again it would depend on whether it was worn under clothing or exposed to the weather....

All told though I like Res C....enough to hunt down a Basic 9 as a user....but even then I like that little bit extra length in the DF grips compared to the Basic grips...so they definately get my vote.

I don't have a Dogfather, I do have a Banned CGFBM:D Its an animal... the proverbial pit bull on a pork chop when it comes time to chop stuff. Id say if the price is right get the Dogfather.

I had both and the CB FBM was so amazing that I sold the DF unused on the exchange.

I have the NMFBM LE, FBM CG, FBM LE, DF (stripped), DFLE, SBR and a BR and I would put the DF up there with the NMFBM LE for pure chopaliciousness. That fat Dog will hunt...and chop and split and even throws fairly well. The other two that I have used, the FBM CG and the BR are no slackers either but the extra mass on those bigguns makes a difference.
