Dudes and Dudesses: Dan at Dogwood Custom Knives makes these smokin' CNC'd Firefly scales for the Tweeners. They even fit the AU-17 without a hitch. I picked 'em up at BLADE and bolted them on the second I got home. They are symmetrical bolt-and-standoff type scales, with just the right amount of surface texture for a super secure grip. Check 'em out below. I'll have to grab a BK-16 out of my collection to see how they look against black too. They go on with a simple allen wrench (smaller than the standard bolts). (yeah, and it's another excuse to post the AU-17 ;)):

Very nice! That knife looks awesome.
I was at Blade on Friday and asked if they had any firefly scales for sale and was told they were sold out, you must have been one of the lucky ones to get a set.
My boy thought those scales were the coolest thing at the show (besides meeting Ethan), we went by Dan's booth a couple of times just so he could check out the firefly scales.

I looked at them there. They certainly caught my interest enough to ask Dan about them.

Added: I was quite impressed with his Kepharts.

I missed Mike at the show, I think he was there?
Dan showed me several Kepharts, including the one he made from direct measurements of Ethan's original, then compared to his own version, which is slightly different (but only slightly).

I think I remember reading that Dan added black liners to his, so nobody could claim it was old, or something like that.

thank you that is very high praise. we sold out at the show but we do have them available on the web site https://www.dogwoodcustomknives.com/collections/accessories. thank you for coming by the booth. Dan

Dan's Kephart is pretty nice - but Mike McCarter's is about as close as you're going to get to an original.

mike's is a true reproduction and an excellent one, mine is what I like to think Mr. Kephart would have made if he was alive today. I use particle steel and modern production methods. I did not taper the tang (drilled it for balance instead to save production cost) and did not bring the false edge all the way to the handle (so there is still a hard corner to scrape with). The Dogwood version has the same blade geometry, same balance, same feel as the original just with a few updates. I like to think of it as putting a turbocharged 351 in a 65 Mustang - same look and feel with modern performance

I did 10 reproduction and added a .014" g-10 liner so there could never be any confusion, kind of like putting a bottle cap in a flake pile after you have been knapping just in case. The ones I am making now are a modern version that look and feel the same as the original but are obviously modern make.

my comment was not meant to sound derogatory.
we both know I think you make good knives -- an an awesome china box pig!

Here is a photo of the one I bought from Dan with the BK-62. Yes, he used black liners. The photo makes the Becker look bigger because it's closer. (That's what wide angle lens does... 5.2" handle to tip length.) They are essentially the same size. Love both of them!

Thing is.... it's definitely a Kephart with Dan's little twist. It does not have to be a re-creation of the original. It is one of the nicest knives I own and will prize it until they toss me in the ground. I think Horace Kephart would approve!

Those tweener handles really do glow. Cool idea. Night use camping.... set it down and you can find it without a flashlight.

I wonder if a 351 would even fit in a '65 Mustang? Dan has a '65 Mustang with a 289.

I was there but merely a spectator - no booth or table.

And thank you Vik and Dan.
