Doing a "splashed" finish?

I was looking at some MODS people have done to their mili's, and found one really, really cool. http://blog.cuscadi.de/?p=2274#more-2274 .How does one do a finish like that? Forgive my for posting a link rather than uploading the pics, I'm on my phone. Any help would be cool, but a walk through would be the best! Or pics even? Thanks everyone, I'm loving it on the Forums.

It's probably a patina.
You can use mustard and just smear it on in the pattern you want.

I don't think that S30V takes a very good patina

It might be etched.

ya, I tried to mustard patina my mili, it sat for a day then I quit. To me that "splash" look, looks like it had a patina ( how do I manage one on s30v?) then got stonewashed? And how could I etch it like that ac1d0v3r1d3?
